Damage565 Report post Posted September 30, 2017 Hello, I have a need for a new cylinder bed machine to add to my shop. Will be used frequently for production so I prefer the additional foot lift and trimmer for effeciency and comfort. I've been looking at various brands and decided to stick with a brand name for easy access to parts, however, I wanted to hear from those of you experienced with these machines to give any valuable advise. I was looking to Juki and the costs were $7000 and up, whew! Found that the Pfaff 335 is about $3000, much more reasonable price. Why such a gap in price? I was always under the impression Pfaff was as good as it gets. I have several flatbed Juki's and I am very satisfied with them but $4000+ more is a stretch. Let me know your thoughts or any recommendations. Also, we plan to use this machine with a syncronized binder.
Wizcrafts Report post Posted September 30, 2017 Which Juki model were you looking into that costs 7k? Pfaff machines use a lot of proprietary parts that are very expensive compared to Juki parts.
Damage565 Report post Posted September 30, 2017 I have pricing for the LS2324-7 and DSC246-7. Both quoted over $7000. Called a Pfaff dealer and recieve the 335 full function pricing at less than $3000.
Constabulary Report post Posted September 30, 2017 (edited) Is it a new or old casting Pfaff 335? Old casting 335 clones with large bobbin you find on my side of the pond for approx. 1000€ incl sync. binder bracket - not sure how the market in the US is but Altlas Levy is offering this type of machine too: http://www.atlaslevy.com/-Cylinder-arm-walking-foot-Industrial-Sewing-Machine-AT335_p_4148.html Its of course a "private label" machine but I doubt there are many differences since most of the "modern" machines come from China anyway. Don´t expect the Pfaff 335 to be made in Germany - these days are gone! I would guess the Jukis are still made in Japan and that would make them pricier I think (though not sure, are they still made in Japan?) You will go broke buying Pfaff parts. Regards, Eric
Uwe Report post Posted September 30, 2017 (edited) To be fair to Juki, I don't think the Juki LS2342-7 and the Pfaff 335 are in the same class capability wise (the Juki is about 50% larger, offers 9mm stitches and 20mm foot lift, the Pfaff 335 has 6mm stitches and 14 mm foot lift). When you sit in front of it, the Juki will appear HUGE compared to the Pfaff 335. The Juki also has features you can't get on a Pfaff 335 for any price (e.g. dual stitch length mechanism). You're not really comparing apples to apples. Comparing the Pfaff 335 to a Juki LS-1341 would be more meaningful. I also doubt that phone quote for the Pfaff 335 included a modern servo motor and control system that's comparable to the Juki's integrated drive system. Ask for pricing on the Pfaff 335 with the P40CD drive control system and all available options. I suspect the price gap will narrow somewhat. Damage565 Report post Posted September 30, 2017 Thank you all for the comments! Constabulary: Thank you for the recommendation, however, I'm looking for a full function machine. Gottaknow: I'll reach out to more Juki dealers and see how the prices compare. I really would prefer the Juki to match the other machines in the shop. That and I haven't dealt with Pfaff parts. UWe: I appreciate the comparison. Taking a closer look at the LS2342-7 it appears to be a cylinder version of the LU-2810, which we have in the shop and love. I would prefer this machine but not sure if it will fit the budget. Hopefully I can find some better pricing. I would like to use a syncronized binder with this machine. I'll check with Atlanta Attachement on Monday to see if they can make that happen.
Old Coach Saddlery Report post Posted September 30, 2017 Anthony Cooper posted back in march that he had some shop equipment for sale. I happened to know he still has an Adler model 69 cylinder arm for sale he is in Sutton Ma. 978-249-9776
