Another knife and sheath

I tried my hand at some inlay on this sheath.   Learned a lot.   Made the knife too, forged out of an old coil spring.  Wood is plum wood.

Very cool.  Interesting design on the sheath:  how does it attach to the belt/harness/apron/whatever?

Yin in this case i just did it to clip to a belt loop,  back pack etc.  Its such a large knife at 7.5 inches blade length and it is made to be a camp chopper. I toyed with doing a belt loop and the clip but just went clip.   This is for a knife trade I am doing with some other knife makers.  Basically you see who wants to be part of it.   You make parameters in this case camp knife chopper, 7 inch blade minimum, handle had to be not bought but scavenged up. Then at random it gets picked who you send yours too and who you get one from.  So everyone ends up with a knife from a custom maker.  Fun stuff!  

 

Who knows maybe I should have went belt loop but I always like to try new stuff when I do one of these.

That’s a great looking knife and sheath that I would be proud to own.  

Only comment is I see the stitching on the outside edge went in a bit on the left side.  I have had similar problems on projects so now I cut slightly oversized and trim to the stitch line after I finish stitching for an even edge.

Is the inside lined to support the inlay?

That is a good tip and something I have done many times!   In this case....I was following the outside stitch up on the sewing machine and bent in some...saw it happen....still learning sewing machines....for sure a learning curve. 

 

In regards to the inlay yes its lined.  The black you see on the tip I stitched that on and then folded it over and glued it in place before I stitched it all together.   Picked that up on a you tube video.  Lots of room for improvement but Appreciate the kind words

I have done the same thing on my machine!  Seems like I take my eye off the needle for just a second and wham - drifts off!

Gary, exactly!   Thats what happened here and I learned if  I make a drastic correction its looks horrible.  While I am not thrilled with it being off at least I dont want to throw it out in this case!

Thank you and it is fun!   If you mean the knife exchange is a great idea it sure isnt my idea been around a long time and whos ever idea it was was great!

I'm a stickler for stitching as you can imagine, and that didn't catch my eye right away, so it isn't outlandish.  Even with hand stitching, I seem to manage to make one very bad stitch on every project.  I think of it as the "Spirit Line" in a Navajo rug.  My project seems to need at least one imperfection, so I let it be.  I've not had a complaint yet.

Maybe we should do a leather exchange:  everyone makes a leather item, random exchange, drop it in the mail, and wait to see what shows up in yours!

Interesting thought yin on an exchange.    You should spear head it.
