Rossr Report post Posted February 24, 2018 So as I progress along in leatherwork I am starting to consider better edgers. I seem to use them the most of all the hand tools and I currently am using Tandy style ones. I have no real complaints I have sharpened them and they work. However have been looking at some of the better tools out there and seems most opinions I can find on the board here leans towards better ones. I have seen Barry Kings, Bob Beard and The older cs osbournes mentioned many times. Also Watt tools too. Few others that slip my mind at the moment.... So I am curious what are folks favorites. I am also curious if folks prefer the bissonnette type more than the regular slotted type. I have never had a chance to try a bissonnette style but seems like they might function better with the ability to pull or push. Curious your thoughts and Thanks Ross
Mattsbagger Report post Posted February 24, 2018 According to Bruce Johnson Tools. I just read on his site regular edgers are easier to maintain. Being that its one cutting surface. Dunno if this helps at all. He has a bunch of vintage edgers on his site right now. He is a nice guy to talk to also. I spent some time bending his ear last year at Sheridan.lol
billybopp Report post Posted February 24, 2018 I've thought I'd give bissonettes a try, and they work nicely on thick leather, but not so hot on thin. They're kinda wide, and to get to the edge you need to prop up the leather on something. They aren't so easy to sharpen IMHO. So far, my favorite is an old unbranded set, similar to the round-bottom Tandys. I'm still looking for "the right ones" tho. - Bill
bikermutt07 Report post Posted February 25, 2018 So far, I like my crafttool pros. And the handles are one of my favorite things to hold.
Rossr Report post Posted February 25, 2018 seems like I may have to just give em a try. Part of me wants to step up into some higher end ones too like barry king etc.....hmmmm
YinTx Report post Posted February 25, 2018 Someone was saying that the CMDachong edgers are really good. Might be a decent price, I don't know. Will have to do some more looking around (read: procrastinate before I spend more $$ on leather working tools...) YinTx
