Members Handstitched Posted March 12, 2018 Members Report Posted March 12, 2018 (edited) G'Day , Geez Some of the restoration jobs I get ....well, I look at them and think , " wouldn't it be easier just to have a new one made ? " But I then think about the sentimental value the owner may have in it, as it could be a link to someone close to them . It was about 40+ years old, apparently . The old post was replaced with link from a bicycle chain at some point in its hard working life, crude , but effective, and the rest was bodged up with a few ' orrible' looking copper rivets and a piece of an old bridle, or reins ....I think. Removing them was a delicate job. The fob watch case repair was very straight forward. There were also a few belts for me to repair. The client was very happy with my work Just received a restoration job on a knife pouch at the weekend, that belonged to another clients Grandfather. Despite their appearance, I give these types of projects the compassion they deserve *sobsniff* HS Edited March 12, 2018 by Handstitched Quote
bikermutt07 Posted March 12, 2018 Report Posted March 12, 2018 Great job. First time I have seen a bicycle chain utilized in leather work. Quote

I never would have thought of it myself, but you can be sure I'm going to steal that idea. I know I've paid astronomically more to have something repaired than just buying new because the original just meant so much to me. Good to know you made your client happy, probably much happier than they let on. Quote
Members Seagrove59 Posted March 17, 2018 Members Report Posted March 17, 2018 Very nice, I like the case design as well, something old is new again. Quote
