Taurus 617 mold gun

Just checking to see if anyone out there has a mold gun for a Taurus 617?

Nope, not here.  But from what I'm seeing, looks like she purdy close to the 686.

617 holds 7 rounds. I don't know if the 686 mold would work.

Thanks @JLSleather & @bikermutt07, I have one for a s&w k model, thought I was getting the 357 Magnum, but got the 38, not a big issue thanks to the great info and advice I've been reading over the past months.  I will have the actual revolver in hand for this one, and it's not going to be molded as much as a pistol I think... I'm just not sure how the wheel would affect the draw, it'll stay in there, but getting it out... Lol.  I haven't tried using them before but was thinking maybe a screw grommet setup like you'd see on kydex holsters to adjust tension.  Since I have the k model blue gun I will see if I have a decent piece of leather left over and make one.  The holster for the Magnum is a western style so mostly smooth outside with a skirt loop...p.s. I watched a great video today on airbrushing stain sunburst patterns... Lol, it was great, I appreciate anyone that takes the time to setup a camera and document a process and rely heavily on those for many projects.  But...I really appreciate watching one where I don't get 10 min in and they're still sitting in front of the camera talking about what they are about to do and then a few seconds of work them back to the poster sitting in a different room talking about what they did and going to do.... Lol.

Mine try to GET TO THE POINT. No fancy "intro" and "sag-way" and music copyrighted by someone else, and name-dropping people I think you may have heard of.  It aint a 'how to" video if'n it don't show ya HOW TO.

I like 'em toward the low end of the cylinder.  Or just under it would likely be fine.  Never cared for them what got a tensioner screw up at the trigger guard area.

Lol true enough...I didn't pay attention at first when I started watching, I was fumbling with my headphones at work so I came in about the part where you were saying here's what these patterns are really good for and folded it inside to keep spray of the inside!... I was like, that sumbich... Then I looked at the poster account and burst out, the captain have me a wierd look

I agree, I think that area would be equally problematic with what I want to avoid...

The video is for a 686 plus which is seven rounds. A 686 is only six rounds. I would think a six shot blue gun would have a different cylinder than a seven shot blue gun. If you were going to mold the cylinder I would think it would create a problem. Am missing something here?

We don't know.  What's the size difference between tehe 6-shot and 7-shot cylinders?  Enough to matter with a 'bucket' holster?  Prolly not ...

I agree the cylinder diameter of the 6 shot vs the 7 shot is very close. The difference from making a holster would be if you were shaping the cylinder indents in the leather they would be off by say 8 degrees, 6 evenly space holes in the same circle vs 7 holes. Shooting point of view there would be less trigger pull needed to racket the cylinder from one round to the next. Still love the six shot but not the stub noses.

Yup.  SAME frame, same barrel placement, makes the difference about 8° (same center line diameter).  He's not wet molding that closely, using tension screw(s) for retention.

Never messed with the +, but the "old" 686 (and of course the blued 586) is purdy.

I love em all. Really like the gp100. And yeah, I did see where he said he wouldn't be wet molding it. I was just checking for information's sake.

The contours would NOT line up if you had it highly detailed.  And the 686 and 686+ use the same frame, but I doubt that the 686 frame is the SAME as the Taurus frame (though quite similar).  Never fired a Gp100 - just seen 'em .  Most of the boys around here are S/W fellas, occasionally somebody with a bit more disposable income likes a Colt, lots of the single six ...

I had the same issue for my little bro's S&W sd9ve, couldn't find a mold gun anywhere, but he said a fold over would be fine for him...i just used the glock19 mold gun (similar length and width) to make sure the pistol fit well when making the cutout, i think i added a little for the fold area since the s&w is a little wider, left about an extra inch for the bottom just in case, always easier to take more off than put it back on.  He got it monday and said it fit like a glove...lol.  I told him it may fit like a mitten, but if he wants it to fit like a glove i'll need to get a mold of it when i visit later this summer so i can make casting.  He cracked up at the mitten/glove analogy. P.S. I spent way more time than needed on that sunburst...lol, had I only seen that video a week earlier.  It was my first attempt at it, and only 2nd attempt using the air brush...

Gibson was staining guitars like that at least since the 50's, but every so often there's another leather guy going on about "designing' or "coming up with" it.

The 9ve is one I never did get round to.  Somebody mentioned one, but never produced MONEY (which is required to get on that list).  Don't think I've ever seen one outside a gun show.  Perhaps get round to that later, but other business needs some attention currently.
