Found one locally that looks to be in good shape and was very cheap, so took a chance and got it, figuring that being an industrial machine, it has a good chance of doing leather. But I can't find anything about it, no owners manual available, even from Consew. I don't know how to sew yet, but if this one would work for 8-10 oz leather, I'd like to start stitching my belts and straps with it. Uwe Report post Posted July 23, 2018 The Consew 310 looks to be a bottom+needle feed design, based on the Consew 310 parts diagram. Not a bad starting point for leather work. Finding parts and service information for this oddball machine may be hard. The fact that the parts book doesn't even tell you what needle system to use is not encouraging. Hopefully the machine came with a pack of needles or a sticker that indicates the needle system. Since you already have the machine, the best way to find out if it will sew 8-10 oz leather is to just try it out. brmax Report post Posted July 23, 2018 (edited) I believe that needle number is 2110402-194 in your parts book Over on thread exchange their showing some Groz Beckert needles for the 310 as these: DBX1- and or 1738A. Remote crowd sourced support, being new to sewing, dealing with a mystery machine that has experts guessing at the most basic information is not an ideal combination. I predict lots of frustration all around. Post some detailed photos (good luck figuring that out on this forum) of the machine including any markings or brand stamps you can find on it or on parts inside or under the machine. Your only real hope may be to find out who actually manufactured the machine and what the original model is. Consew doesn't manufacture machines, they only put their label on machines made by others (Seiko etc.) - and obfuscate documentation to render it nearly useless. If you can find out the original make and model, you have a chance. Otherwise, you may be better off starting with a different machine. Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I looked around some and there are for sure scattered needle number systems that world manufactures just couldnt or wouldnt agree to earlier standards with the same. blafleur Report post Posted July 25, 2018 I emailed Groz, and got the same answer as Brmax, and comparing those suggestions to their needle suggestion chart for various uses, I don't see any leather recommended needle types listed under DBX1 or 1738A. Like Uwe astutely pointed out, this may be a fruitless uphill battle, though good sense isn't often used in my decision making. Needle type chart suggests D, DH, and LL type points, and none of these points seem to be a choice in these 2 needle systems.
