Members Arenaldiel Posted August 9, 2018 Members Report Posted August 9, 2018 Well met everybody I have searched for this topic on the forum and found nothing so I hope it is correct to start a new one: I have more than one stitching machine, I bought a batch of them from a closing small farm. I've never used them much because I don't know them well and I want to understand how to operate each one properly in order to use it well. I want to start with the one I know better: Singer 211 U566A It stitch leather well and I've done interesting things. I've found the service manual online but it does not say what maximum thread size I can use. So the question is: what maximum thread size can I use? I hope you all understand my english. Thank you for any help Ciao! Giovanni Quote
Members Constabulary Posted August 9, 2018 Members Report Posted August 9, 2018 (edited) Most machines of this class can handle size 20 / 138 (with 22 / 140 needle approx) thread but some even size 15 / 207 (with 23 / 160 needle approx) - but depends on how they are setup. CowboyBob Posted August 9, 2018 Report Posted August 9, 2018 Yes,Constabulary gave you some good advice. It also helps to use 1 size smaller thread in the bobbin than on top. Also be sure to hold the thread when you start sewing for the first 3-4 stitches to prevent jamming.
