Why you should buy a round knife.

Recommended Posts

Love me some kniporn. I will have to try that sharpening technique.

And I have to also say, once I spent the money, I never missed it. That knife has paid for itself by working properly and thru enjoyment of it's use.

I highly recommend Terry's products.

Mike, Thanks for the reminder...for some reason I drifted back to the utility knives.... not like I cant use the round knives... maybe there are in the wrong spot in the shop.

Mutt.. while I have a set of the Stohlman knives (not bad but not best)  Terry's  stuff is hard to resist.....

Mutt, which knife did you end up with?

Well, I am actually lucky enough to own 3.

I have the French model, like in Mike's video.

I have the long bevel point knife.

And I have the curved detail knife.

Beautiful.

Forgive my ignorance, what do you use the long bevel knife and the detail knife for?

The curved detail knife is used like a clicker knife. It is the one knife that really scares me. It is crazy sharp. I got it to cut tiny recesses in the leather. Little spots where a push cut won't work. It comes in very handy.

The long detail knife is made for straight cuts on thin soft leathers. You can pretty much chop straight down with it. Then it doesn't pull the leather out of square when you cut it. I actually got it used from a forum member here who wanted to find other purchases. It wasn't a knife I set out to buy, but hey it adds to the collection.

He is worth the wait. Just touch base about once a month, and be patient.

I've been waiting since Dec 8 for a skiving knife from Knip. I checked in with him 2-3 weeks ago and he said he was just getting back in the shop after an injury.

All good to know.  It looks like he has a detail knife and a long bevel knife available for sale now.  Here's hoping its still available and he just hasn't updated his website.
