Members LetterT Posted September 4, 2018 Members Report Posted September 4, 2018 Recently I spotted these leather knife made of ceramic and I was wondering if anyone has tried them or had any experience with it (or maybe with ceramic kitchen knives). I never had any and I am thinking if I use them only to cut leather (which is not the toughest material in the world) they should last a long time without the need to sharpen. Quote
Rockoboy Posted September 4, 2018 Report Posted September 4, 2018 I have never heard of these ceramic knives, and never used a ceramic swivel knife blade, but I have heard very different opinions on ceramic sk blades, some love 'em, some hate 'em. I think its a very specialised field to get the edge back once its blunt. Nothing like stropping a steel blade AFAIK. Quote
Members Chain Posted September 5, 2018 Members Report Posted September 5, 2018 Strop the ceramic blades and they are good to go Quote
Members blue duck Posted September 6, 2018 Members Report Posted September 6, 2018 I have wondered the same thing. I talked myself out of trying them after using kitchen knives. Those almost seemed disposable. And if they chipped, they were useless. That said, I would also think that the material quality is like steel. There is the good, the bad, and everywhere in between. I just wasn't ready to spend more to see if that theory held up. Look forward to seeing what other have found. And if the quality of cuts is comparable to steel. Quote
Northmount Posted September 6, 2018 Report Posted September 6, 2018 Kitchen knives are very brittle and snap or nick easily. My SIL won't buy anymore, low or high priced. Tom Quote
Members bullmoosepaddles Posted September 6, 2018 Members Report Posted September 6, 2018 I love our ceramic swivel knife blade. I have two ceramic kitchen knives I like a lot. But are they sharper than good steel knives, I would say not. If you have diamond sharpening stones, They can be resharpened fairly easily. I have never nicked one of ours, so I can't say what would happen then. But like honing a nick form a steel blade I would assume it is no fun. Quote
