Stetson912 Report post Posted September 6, 2018 So, I found an ad for a singer 111-151 for sale with motor and table and such for $425. I'm considering buying it as I've heard they are decent machines. My question is, what are it's capabilities? I'm very ignorant with sewing machines and I don't want to get something that's hard to use or wonlt fit the bill ect. Any information will help. And I'll try to find info myself. . I just won't know what I'm looking at haha. Thanks!

It will give you a general over view of most models. So times you get lucky and get pictures too. Edited September 6, 2018 by Aven I forgot how to use grammer correctly. Uwe Report post Posted September 6, 2018 If the bill you're trying to fit is holsters and gun belts, then the Singer 111W151 isn't quite the right candidate. These kind of topics nearly always end up with recommendations of a Juki TSC-441 class machine like Cowboy CB-4500/Cobra Class 4/Techsew 5100 and other clones. Albob Report post Posted September 6, 2018 I don't know if there's much of a difference between the 111-151 and the 111W155 that I have but my experience with mine is that with the right thread and needle combo it does fine on 2 layer of 3-4. So wallets, passport cover and some belts shouldn't be a problem. I have tried thicker with mixed results and the mix was more on the unacceptable side. The tri weave belt I posted was sewn on my 155, and I'd say that was the max. All in all the 111W155 is a good machine with a lot of support and parts available. PS: I paid $500.00 for it and it wasn't much fun to use until I bought the servo conversion from Toledo Sewing
Stetson912 Report post Posted September 6, 2018 @Uwe, I thought it would be too light duty for holsters and such. I'm looking for something for smaller items and hand bags. Well, particularly hand bags. So that I might be able to reduce the time invested in some projects. @Albob I will most likely need to do the same, however the picture on the add shows it stitching leather. So it may already be a servo. Heck, even hand cranking (you can do that right) is still faster than my hand stitching haha. I just am clueless when it comes to machines and I don't want to get something to do the wrong job. And this may tide me over until I'm able to afford a 441 type machine. I just have been keeping an eye out and $425 seems fair.
Albob Report post Posted September 6, 2018 (edited) I was looking for a picture of a 111-151 and came across his thread here in LW. Looks like the info you need to make a choice on buying it or not. Edited September 6, 2018 by Albob

shoepatcher Report post Posted September 7, 2018 This is not a true walking foot machine. A walking foot machine is better for sewing leather especially if you are going over seams and splines. Just my tow cents. glenn
