Members justingschneider Posted September 18, 2018 Members Report Posted September 18, 2018 Hello all, I bought a singer 119-2 cylinder bed sewing machine and it is working fine after some tlc and a new servo motor. I would like to replace the walking feet with ones that would allow me to see the needle. The one i have now the needle goes through the front foot and makes it hard to see where im sewing especially around corners. Is there a replacement foot that will fit this machine? Having a hard time finding info on this. So far all i have seen is a foot that comes on the 78-3 but it has some teeth on the bottom and i was trying to stay away from that if i can since im sewing leather. Also i have my tension really high. I works fine but just seems really tight. I had to tighten it that much to get the seam right just doesn't seem right. Im using 138 size thread. Should i replace the tension assembly? Any info would help thank you. Quote
Members Constabulary Posted September 18, 2018 Members Report Posted September 18, 2018 (edited) You can use a heavier spring on the tension unit - easy task. Most dealers should stock them. Reg. feet - I would grind down the tip of the inner foot to get and open needle hole. Members justingschneider Posted September 18, 2018 Author Members Report Posted September 18, 2018 that wont mess up the sewing to just cut off the tip? so you think the spring could just be weak? maybe the original 1939 spring isn't what it once was? Quote
CowboyBob Posted September 18, 2018 Report Posted September 18, 2018 138 thread normally will require more tension, you'll get a better looking stitch by going one size smaller thread #92 on the bobbin. These feet are being discontinued by my suppliers do to lack of demand.Like Const said you can grind off the teeth & then also grind or cut the front off to the front of the hole to create an open toe with a Dremel. Members Constabulary Posted September 18, 2018 Members Report Posted September 18, 2018 Will not mess up - I did that on my Singer 108w20 - no problems and I´m sure other member did that as well. See picture. Spring is at least to weak for your application as it seems - replacing them is not uncommon. Have you tried to reduce the bottom tension? If the bottom tension is too high you also need more top tension. Members justingschneider Posted September 18, 2018 Author Members Report Posted September 18, 2018 bottom tension is good. had a friend who sews for a living come over he got the tension right for me but voiced concern at how tight it was too. Is this machine the same as a class 78? Quote

Or, find a Chinese company that builds clones of Singer machines and ask them if they know this ancient model. This model is about a hundred years old. Check with the CowboySew/Hightext company.
