Members Dogmatic Posted October 5, 2018 Members Report Posted October 5, 2018 Just starting to get into working with leather a little. Would like to learn more. Already made a small pouch for one of the saddlebags on my bike. Hoping to figure out which sewing machine to buy too. Quote Inclined to lay down principles as incontrovertibly true.
bikermutt07 Posted October 5, 2018 Report Posted October 5, 2018 Welcome aboard. There are several machines to choose from. No machine will do everything. There are lots of threads here about the different machines. Consider what you want to make the most of.... Then look to the machine for that category. Quote I'm not paying 80 bucks for a belt!!! It's a strip of leather. How hard could it be? 4 years and 3 grand later.... I have a belt I can finally live with. Stitching is like gravy, it's only great if you make it every day. From Texas but in Bossier City, Louisiana.
Members Dogmatic Posted October 5, 2018 Author Members Report Posted October 5, 2018 Small leather pouch. Ended up riveting it together instead of stitching by hand. Quote Inclined to lay down principles as incontrovertibly true.
bikermutt07 Posted October 5, 2018 Report Posted October 5, 2018 Nifty. This is a really fun hobby. Try not to get discouraged early on. There are plenty of mistakes to be made. And no one can make them for you. You will look back on your early stuff and laugh at how much farther you have gotten. But, even out early stuff will outlive us. Members Bawarrior Posted November 13, 2018 Members Report Posted November 13, 2018 (edited) I have been doing leather work for many years. Knife sheaths, Harley Davidson seats, purse, wallets. Never have needed a sewing machine. Hand work is Very desirable. I have to say you will go long ways without a sewing machine and you’ll be fine Edited November 13, 2018 by Bawarrior More info Quote
