Pearson question re LH shuttle plate

Recommended Posts

Can other owners post pics of the underside of the left hand shuttle cover plate so i can see the amount of bevel on the brass guide. I am almost done having a replacement made for one lost by UPS and am using this old ine as the model and i would like to see the angle of chamfer on others to see if this angle is common or the result of excess wear etc. On the sample pictured below.

Thanks in advance.

Man that would ruin my day if UPS lost something as important and difficult to replace as that!  Did they offer any compensation?

I seem to have reached my limit on posting pictures when I posted the one of my bobbin winder on who uses a Pearson # 6.  But looking at the picture you posted it looks like the brass is quite worn.  On mine the slope on the brass is flat not rounded as that one looks to be.

I´ll post pictures later. During the restoration I have replaced mine with a NOS one and it has not seen much use since then.

From all the evidence it seems when the vendor left it at UPS to crate it and they dropped it over on the flywheel side bending the handle the main shaft several guides and screws and the plate slid out since there was no spring locking it in and the shuttle and bobbin came out apparently unnoticed... then just packed it all up.

Very well packed but arrived useless.

There is a claim with UPS and between parts from Henry, aaron marton and my metal friend it will be close to 750 to get it operational again...

Yes if it is square you likely will .  They have a slope on one side.  Sort of like if you cut the one corner off leaving a 5th flat area.

Here is my final version. Wont really know how it works until i get the shuttle and run it back and forth.

AND a question about the pin (screw?) that the plate spring is to engage to retain it in the box. Is it a threaded piece? Or a pin that can be driven further in? Right now it is too short to engage the spring. I tried a few SAE allen keys in the little whole on the fornt of the box but nothing engaged... however there is a lot of gunk in their which may not be helping.

I can't tell on mine if its threaded or not. The pin is near flush on the outside.  If it is it likely is a Whitworth thread. I thought you were close to Aaron Martin they have those slides listed for sale one the website. So  would be easy for you to get that plus shuttle and bobbin.

You are right. The pictures shows the cover with the spring but it says shuttle cover spring.  NOT shuttle cover WITH spring.
