Members klutes Posted August 10, 2019 Members Report Posted August 10, 2019 When using veg tan leather for bag straps. What is the preferred method of staining or painting the edges to assure no rub off clothing. When making belts I prefer stain to get the look I want. with couple of coats of sealer to stop rub off. but on tote bags I am a little more worried about rubbing off on someones nice coat or blouse. what do you bag makers do. And yes I prefer the veg tan for straps vs the pull up leather that the bags are made of. Thanks Quote

I paint it on with a small, stiff brush (usually two coats, maybe three), and have found that the color does not rub off at all. Water based and easy clean-up. Very happy with the results. Quote
Members Halitech Posted August 11, 2019 Members Report Posted August 11, 2019 Don't paint or dye them at all, just give a good burnish and finish with pure beeswax. Quote
