I just bought a very nice singer 196k205 with a pfaff table motor, got a super deal (40usd) and couldn't resist. I understand that it won't be any good for leatherwork as it's not walking foot or needle feed? I bought it with the intention of re-selling and financing a servomotor for my 111w155.

Anyways, the machine, table and motor is cosmetically super nice, it's been used by a former clothing seamstress (is that the correct term?) BUT - it won't turn. Seems like something is stuck inside the machine. I removed the drive-belt so it's free of the motor.

Is there a locking mechanism in the machine? Presser foot lifts without problems.

Some pictures would be nice.

Could well be that just the needle bar is stuck. I´d also check the bobbin case & the hook and see if some old thread is blocking mechanisms. Oil the machine and maybe put some drips of kerosene / Diesel, paint thinner, benzine or other mineral spirit / solvent in the oil spots and to all moving parts (especially needle bar guides) and jiggle the hand wheel a bit hack and forth.

Will post pictures soon, it's currently stashed at my grandma's place:) I forgot to write that the hand wheel can be moved a couple of centimeters back and forth, and it feels and sounds like if there is a slot in which a certain movement in the mechanism is allowed. No movement of the needlebar when this action is performed, and it is more of a metal meets metal feeling and sound, rather than gummed up parts. Does that make any sense?

Sounds like the rotary hook got some thread jammed in it,oil the hook area & keep trying to turn the handwheel backwards to unjam it.

Thanks for the tips - will check the rotary hook this weekend.

I've read that this machine is for medium to heavy fabric, and will probably not be of any use to me, so it will be up for sale again as soon as I know that it works. I belive the market for such a machine is pretty small in Norway, so I'm hoping it'll cover å new servo motor for my 111w155

I had a machine that was jammed up when I got it, oiled it and tried a few things that did not work. Took it out of the table put it on the work bench under good light and found pieces  of thread had jammed up the rotary hook and tried to pull it out piece by piece, but ended up pulling to pieces, cleaning and oiled everything put it back together and it worked fine.
