Juki LU-563 vs Consew 146rb-1 vs Consew 226

Recommended Posts

Im looking into getting a sewing machine for auto upholstery and leather working. I found these 3 machines on Craigslist but wasn't sure which would work the best/which was the best value. The Juki LU-563 is $725, Consew 146rb-1 is $950 and the Consew 226 is $1000. What would you recommend.

The Lu563 is the best machine for what you are doing.

Depending on their conditions, I'd look at the Juki LU-563 or Consew 146rb-1 before the Consew 226. The 226 has a smaller bobbin.

The significant differences between the first two is that the Juki has triple feed, straight stitch and a drop in extra large bobbin, whereas the Consew 146 has top and bottom feed only, a slightly smaller M bobbin and wide zig-zag. The Juki uses Singer 111w155 style feet which are available in a myriad of configurations. There would be fewer presser foot options for the Consew 146 compared to the Juki. Also, the Juki 563 may take heavier thread than the Consew.

I'd recommend the Juki LU-563 without hesitation.  It's the machine I use personally, and it has an extra large capacity U style bobbin (even bigger than an M bobbin).  Plus it has other features that I like such as top loading (drop-in) bobbin, and a large paddle style reverse lever.

Without looking at the condition of each there’s no way to say which is a decent deal.  No way is a clapped out 563-c with no reverse worth $600, but if it’s solid throughout that’s probably the market price for a used one.  Same goes for the others.   I get a kick out of machines that are a collection of every bad part in a shop... lol
