egnandez Report post Posted November 5, 2019 Howdy, all. I'm a newbie rawhider, and I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions for where to get fresh cattle hides. I have tried calling around to some local cattle processing plants and have gotten the response that they don't sell hides individually. If it helps any, I'm out in the Bryan/College Station, TX area. And I don't have my own cattle to harvest when one croaks... Thanks!

ASk the local ranches if they have any privately processed for personal use and where. Here in Wyoming I would go to a local wild meat processor as they do anything people bring in, don't know if Texas has those here they are also part of the local taxidermy. MikeRock Report post Posted November 5, 2019 Around here in southern Wisconsin we have guys that do on farm kills. They skin and then quarter the cow and take it to the butcher shop of choice, if they don't do it themselves. They have hides and don't get much for them. Check your local small town butcher shops and maybe you will get lucky. God bless.
roo4u Report post Posted November 10, 2019 i would try to find a butcher shop that does butchering for individuals. that be your best bet because mostly they will sell it to you for whatever the by-product companys will pay.
