Members youdesiremenow Posted December 7, 2019 Members Report Posted December 7, 2019 Any wisdom on thread and needs with this machine. Thought I had it sewing fine but not. I purchased some new needles and thread. I figured I start with the 230 needle with 346 thread on the top and 277 on the bottom as directed. The thread I got is called poly nu Bond according to Weaver it's polyester and when I'm sewing with the black it seems like it just keeps producing these little flake fibres that come off of the thread. Its awlful like the coating on the thread is getting rubbed when feeding through to sew. The bottom thread easily slips out. When I switch the top colour same size threads the brown on top appears puffy but no flake and the bottom seems okay. I have tried switching bunches of combinations top bottom color. I'm getting really frustrated. Any suggestions will help please. Quote
Members Constabulary Posted December 7, 2019 Members Report Posted December 7, 2019 Sounds not like a machine issue - rather poor thread I guess. Best you can do is using linen thread (maybe even pre-waxed) on this machine. I also used polyester/cotton thread (not bonded) with no issues (have sold my machine this summer). CowboyBob Posted December 7, 2019 Report Posted December 7, 2019 Our machine works great with nylon,I'd say it a thread issue too. Quote Bob Kovar Toledo Industrial Sewing Machine Sales Ltd. 3631 Marine Rd Toledo,Ohio 43609 1-866-362-7397
Members youdesiremenow Posted December 7, 2019 Author Members Report Posted December 7, 2019 Hmm, it is new thread and I purchased 3 rolls of each in different colors. Yikes I'd be happy if it was just the thread but can't see it being wonky with all of them. Thanks I'll keep plugging away. Quote

Members youdesiremenow Posted December 8, 2019 Author Members Report Posted December 8, 2019 Well as it turns out I had a couple of issues going on. I had the needle in backwards. I discovered when I broke the 160 needle it scraped the shuttle causing a burr. That seemed to messing up the next needle I plugged and it also got a little burr in the end. After some light sanding I got the machine to sew almost perfect. Seems the only way was using a 230 needle with a spool of white left twist thread I had kicking around and was able use the new thread 277 for the bobbin. The new threads I bought of the 346 and 277 won't work as a top thread either. I'll have to keep an eye out for linen threads and get more needles. Quote
Members philg9 Posted March 28, 2020 Members Report Posted March 28, 2020 For the heavier work that I use my British United Shoe Machinery No6 for, the only thread I use that I find works best with no shredding or fluffing the thread is this Coats terko satin thread, it is a polyester cotton core spun thread. It runs superbly through the machine and the machine loves it as it sets the stitches beautifully and firm. It does have a waxed coating as it goves of a white waxy dusting once its been through the machine which is just fine by me as I dont have to pre wax dry unwaxed thread or use the wax pots on the machine. There is a lot to be said for modern threads. I am in the UK and I dont know wether this thread make is available in other countries but if it is I highly recommend it. The reason I use this thread is because it was recommended by the very experienced saddler/harness maker freind I bought the my machine off some years ago and I have never had reason the change the thread I use as it's performance is perfect. The picture of the bevelled breeching seat is the finished result of my machine stitching with this thread sewn at 6 to the inch on Bakers Oak Bark tanned harness hide. Quote
