Restored stitching clam

Recommended Posts

I purchased a stitching clam at an auction a few months ago, ($65.00) finally decided to do a partial restore.

Buffed / rubbed it out with steel wool an added 2 coats of boiled linseed oil and glued some scraps to the clam jaws

I've been to several auctions in the last 20-25 years and these are rare in my opinion. I bout wet myself at $65 bucks.

28-1/2" Tall

Why Boiled Linseed oil and not a deep varnish

I take it you press down on the bar to open it up

Chrisash...The boiled Linseed oil is what I had laying around...Its kind of a natural finish.

Yes the lever has a cam on the end of it to open the jaws...Push down and it opens up.

VERY nice. I scored one at an antique store a couple of years ago, the first I had ever found, and haven't seen one since.

SCORE!
