Hi dikman

re: Can't help wondering about the competency of the dealer who set that up........

Not incompetent. Maybe a little laziness which we are all  guilty of ;)

From the nameplate the machine is from Japan not China.

hi kgg

re: From the nameplate, the machine is from Japan, not China

When I arrived at the dealers the machine was assembled and after testing was boxed. I clearly saw made in china on that box. Was that the original box? A few weeks ago I spoke to another dealer who told me

all Juki machines are now made in China? Very confusing. Initially, all of my information came from utube and I was being utubed into buying a Sailrite. Really well presented but something just did not add up so I

googled pros and cons Sailrite and my search result was leatherworker.net.

I don't think the dealer set this machine very well, I would hope all you would have to do is plug it in, sit down and start sew with very little adjusting of the thread.

I would think they should have been more competent then what they appear to have been.

Bert.

At least as regards the knee lifter. I'm surprised you could get any lift at all, the mechanics and leverage were all wrong. I agree with kgg about just using 1 strand of the wire (or you could replace it with a chain). The hole it goes through in the table looks like it's already been elongated a bit? Don't be scared to tinker with the various adjustments on the knee mechanism to make it more comfortable to use.

Machines wot I have - Singer 51W59; Singer 331K4; Seiko STH-8BLD; Pfaff 335; CB4500.

The only Juki that I know of being still made in Japan is the 1541S all the rest are sadly being made in China. But that is another discussion.

The knee lift is not supposed to be connected to the wire ! Om the back side of the machine there is a rod with a spring that is to be connected to the knee lift lever.. The wite is used when you operate the presser foot lift with a pedal. The one who set this up does not know what he is doing! My humble opinion
