Finished lever gun butt stock cover

Recommended Posts

Finally finished this stock cover for a model 94. 100% leather construction. Lined with deerskin and laced together. Even the back strap is laced in and tied off. I'm happy with how it came out, especially since I dont own a lacing chisel haha

Looks great @Stetson912! My hand is cramping just thinking about all that backgrounding...I tend to squeeze my tools, especially backgrounders, and I mess up my hands and tips of my thumbs pretty good.

Very neat! Does the strap across the buttpad rub your shoulder under recoil at all?

Thanks Munky, it was a lot of back grounding. But turned out ok I think

I don't know. I made it for my uncle. No complaints yet though. I did skive it a little thinner than the leather i used for the rest of it. I wouldn't think it would be uncomfortable. I didn't fire it but I shouldered it and it felt about the same as normal. His is also a .357 mag instead of a 30.30 like mine

Looks great. Is there also a leather wrap, on the lever, in the 94’s future?

This was for my uncle. Its pictured on my gun but I made it for his. So I honestly cant say. But if I ever get around to making one of my own, I would definitely wrap the lever in some way.

That thing is wonderful!  I want to make one now, but I really suck at carving... I am much better stamping things.

Way to go.. I love it and have a few lever actions that need these.

I'm no great Carver either. Just takes practice. Thanks for the kind words.

It would look nice stamped with an arrow basket weave I think *hint hint*

Nice work! Love the lacing detail - must’ve taken a ton of time

Wow looks great!  You have convinced me to make one for my Henry now!  (I’m going to attempt .357 bullet loops on one side & carve the other.)

Thanks. It was fun. I've seen a lot of them with bullet loops. I'd like to see it when you get it done!

I Made this cover of a Veg-tan leather for my Browning X-bolt SS Stalker 30-06 SPRG Rifle. I also started a new project for my Savage Mark II F .22 LR rifle.
