Members MickInMelbs Posted April 3, 2020 Members Report Posted April 3, 2020 Hi all First post. Great forum. I normally sew very thick weight belts on my CB4500, but I’m now looking to make bags, aprons and tool rolls out of recycled canvas. I was wondering if anyone has advice on the optimal setup for canvas? I have set the walking foot height as low as I can, but still can’t seem to get the outer foot low enough. I have checked the chain to make sure there is some slack. This is my setup. I am guessing I should get myself a Centre presser foot with teeth for fabric? Cheers Quote
Moderator Wizcrafts Posted April 3, 2020 Moderator Report Posted April 3, 2020 I would use the blanket foot for this kind of work, along with the blanket feed dog. Both have teeth on them to grab cloth. Quote
Members MickInMelbs Posted April 3, 2020 Author Members Report Posted April 3, 2020 Ok thanks. When I add the blanket foot I can get the outer foot this low. Does that look right do you think? Quote
RockyAussie Posted April 3, 2020 Report Posted April 3, 2020 I would think that is too high to be much use Mick. Look at page 36 in this manual and see if that helps you. Regards Brain. inst-441.pdf Quote
CowboyBob Posted April 3, 2020 Report Posted April 3, 2020 Do you have enough slack in the foot lift chain? Quote
Moderator Wizcrafts Posted April 3, 2020 Moderator Report Posted April 3, 2020 Any foot should go all the way down. Make sure there is enough slack in the foot lift chain. If that isn't hanging the foot up. the presser bar may need to be lowered (inside the head). This requires removing the faceplate on the left end. Check for a tight chain first! Quote

I’ll see if I can find some instructions on adjusting the presser bar. Quote
Members MickInMelbs Posted April 4, 2020 Author Members Report Posted April 4, 2020 Guys, lowering the presser bar did the trick. I’m running perfectly now. Thank you very much! For anyone reading this in future, adjusting the presser bar is really quite straightforward. Removing the face plate is easy and once you’re inside it’s fairly self evident what needs to be done. What a great forum! Quote
