Members tmoffitt Posted April 19, 2020 Members Report Posted April 19, 2020 I recently found a Singer 46KSV49 - along with a 400W21 & 47W26 - while doing some picking in southern MO. I've finished the restoration of the 46KSV49 and have not found a single piece of information or reference to this particular machine and I've read every other 46k manual and parts list and nothing else looks like her! The biggest problem is I managed to break the needle that was originally in the machine. I did find, thru here I think, one obscure reference that showed the needle system was in fact 215x15 and unfortunately there are no alternatives listed with any needle manufacturer...so my question is where do I find a 215x15 needle? I made the costly mistake of ordering "215x15" from College Sewing Supply but the needles I received are nowhere close in size to the original...I've spent endless hours searching online with no luck - help! The term SV is also subject to some conjecture, the best guesses are Special Version or Special Variation - no-one knows for sure. They could simply be an experimental variation of the standard model or could be a version specifically ordered by a purchaser, again no-one knows for certain. Manuals for SV models appear to be non-existent (if, in fact, any ever existed). SV models are likely to remain an ongoing mystery. Yours, by the way, appears to be in very good condition. Quote

The normal 46k49 takes the 215x15 but your´s is the SV model so you will need a different needle. Here you will find a needle chart of the various Singer models including the SV versions and it would seem you need a 1034-01 needle for your machine. I don´t know how much difference their is in length compared to the 215x15 needles but would imagine you could possibly move the needle bar to accommodate it??? I also got some 215 needles from them and the shank is thicker compared to the original singer ones i have, but they still fit. By the way, i think you got that tension spring on wrong there?? have a look at these pictures.. Hi,I will try to upload a few pictures of it anvilring, these were meant to sew from hosiery,fur,leather to straw hats depending on the class model... This is two pieces of veg tan 1mm thick each.. Members jimi Posted May 3, 2020 Members Report Posted May 3, 2020 The 46ksv49 looks close to the 46k29,30,54 parts wise but not all ??? It looks like your tension stud could be sheared off on one side?? the long guide on the right hand side for the thread is there and the looper looks like it gets threaded also, so i think that is for two threads like you said tmoffitt. The 46kSV models seemed to be registered until about 46ksv29 at the Kilbowie Clydebank factory when the class numbers made at that time (c1907) went to 46k41, your machine is from 1951, until about 1917 you can find some specific models that were made (Ismacs) but after that, the reference was just the kind of stitch it performed...Pique,Prix seam,Surg.
