A lot of the English style half-chaps or leggings have a strip of elastic from top to bottom that keeps them from rotating around on the leg. This is a very strong elastic, usually black, sometimes brown, that (obviously) has a sideways stretch. The pieces used on the leggings are a couple of inches wide and up to 18" or so in length. The closest elastic I could find was from a shoemaker's findings supplier, but it onlyl comes in up to 12 inch width. I've tried other elastics like Spandex but they are too thin and light. My research tells me this stuff is made on a special loom and is usually only available to the larger manufacturers who can commission a minimum ord…

HAve any of you ever bought leather from Leather Unlimited in Wisconsin? Price seems to be right and they have a good price on gallon containers of Fiebing's tanners bond, which right now, I prefer over anything.

I just received 3 full sides of leather from Zack White and the leather is very good quality. I bought 7-8 oz grade 1 domestic tooling sides for less than I was spending at the local Tandy store. The leather is much better quality with very little waste. They shipped promptly and UPS got it here in one piece, just barely!! They had torn the outer paper wrapping but there was a heavier cardboard wrapper under that and it survived intact. Very happy with Zack Whites service and I will be ordering from them again.

I am a new Cub Scout leader and my first leather project has fallen into my lap. I went to the local Leather Factory store and they provided me with a bunch of scrap material to teach the boys with. Are there any good sources for inexpensive tools? Since I am spending the boys money, I want to be as thrifty as possiable. I am thinking local Pwan shops, but I doubt I will be lucky there. I am also thinking yard sales, but again it is a tough road. Do you have any sugggestions as to where I can look for a few starter tools? Thanks, Bryan Land O Lakes, FL

Has anyone used Zack White Leather Company. Are they a decent company to deal with? Ship orders in reasonable time frame? Any problems with them? Just found their site the other night and they have decent prices on hardware and some leather strap materials. http://www.eleatherworks.com/home.php?cat=259 Thanks for you help. John

I've noticed a difference between Zack Whites leather and Tandys leather. The tandy leather when tooling seems awfully soft but the zack whites leather seemed a tad stiff when tooling. So my question to you all is where do you like to purchase your tooling leather and for what reason?
