Now that I have lost my little point and shoot I need to find a camera to take photos of my work. I would be interested in knowing what you all think a good camera would be for a novice to shoot pictures of their work. I was using the Cannon A80 which is basically a point and shoot with some extra features. It was only a 4 megapixel camera and was several years old so it was defintely time to update. I have been looking at the Cannon SLRs but have a problem justifying the expense when I will only use it for taking photos of leather. I would like to know what you all think are important features and what is really not necessary. I would prefer to stay with Cannon but am …

I am definitely going to build a light box for the smaller items, but I'm wondering about saddles. Are the really good photos made using a LARGE light box? I would really appreciate some insight on how some of you saddle makers get quality photos of your saddles. What type of background works best, etc. I'm a little too scotch to pay a professional to do them for one thing, and I am a LONG way from a professional that would have ever worked with saddles. Thanks for any and all ideas.

Well couldnt handle being without a camera so got a used canon A1000IS from BandH photo. $90 shipped. Pretty good camera for a little point and shoot. Took a couple of quick close up shots to see how they would turn out. Seemed pretty good. Used my lightbox and the supplied editing tools that came with the camera which wasnt much. Heres a few photos with the jpeg straight from the camera followed by the edited version. http://s260.photobucket.com/albums/ii33/QU...0first%20shots/

You kindly offered to give me some photo help, so, here goes. Do you see how poorly the first picture shows? However, when I zoom in I get closer to what I'm looking for (3rd pic) All of them were taken in close-up/macro mode with auto flash, and an overhead flourescent and a desk lamp on either side. Does it look like a light issue? The second pic was lightened in my graphic program. Thanks in advance Ian

I have been looking at buying Photo Shop to help me work with my digital photos. That seems to be the program most talk about when they want to reduce the file size, crop, change or work with photos. I have a photo program that came with my computer but it does not let me reduce the file size. I try to set my camera to take reduced file size when I know that I may email or download to my website but sometimes I forget then I have a time trying to figure it out or just retake the photo. Photo Shop is about 80.00 and the price is not that expensive for me but I thought I would ask if there is another program out there that is better, cheeper or free. Thanks Randy
