Great Work How did you get the undyed edge on the black piece?
-
Thanks I will have to try that on my next quiver.
-
Lovely work. Can you share how you constructed the ends? They look seamless and I am particularly interested in how you cap the bottom that way. I make custom arrow quivers and capping the bottom is one of the areas I find challenging. I am always looking for a new way to do it. Chris

Great Work!! I would also love to see a pattern for these.

I just run the back of mine over my strop a few time after a days use. It stays nice and sharp.

Clay dose that pebble backgrounder have a number? I have been looking through the HideCrafter catalog, but haven't been able to find it.

Whinewine is absolutely correct if the rivets are to long the straightest holes in the world wont help you. I typically like mine to stick about an 1/16 of an inch out the top of the peices I'm rivieting.
-
I measure in from the side and mark and then I measure down from the top and put a mark. I use these two marks to line up the edge of the cutting tube. This works better for me than trying to center it on a single mark. The rivet will cover the marks when you put it in, or you can mark on the back.

I just take the lid off and drop the lace in all but the last two inches or so. After a few seconds of soaking I grab a shop towel wrap it around the lace and pull the lace thought it as I pull it out of the bottle. cut off the two inches that aren't dyed, or give it a quick dip and dry with the towel. hang it out of the way for a bit to dry completely.

It is a dye W. D. Lockwood Dyes. If I want a color to be lighter I add more denatured alcohol. You can also mix the Lockwood dyes to make custom colors. Gel antique is made by Eco-Flo. It is a water based gel you apply heavily to a piece and then wipe off with a damp sponge. This leaves it in the recessed areas of a carving and sort of highlights it. Mink oil is my last touch I like the way it finishes a piece. If this is the right way or not I couldn't tell you it's just the way I do it. I always dye my pieces after I case it. Don't know about mixing it with a leather conditioner, never tried that.

Its a dyed veg tan with eco-flo black gel antique
-
I just bought my first bottle of eco-flo gel antique, and after reading this thread I ran to my shop to test the many pieces I have used it on. fortunately it hasn't run on any of my projects I tested even the one I held under the water facet. I dye my stuff with an alcohol based wood dye and then use the gel antique and then finish off with 4 or 5 cotes of mink oil. Apparently that works well enough to keep the eco-flo from running.

http://www.eleatherworks.com/home.php?cat=687 This is where I get my lacing hooks from. They have a few to choose from and if you look the have a Tubular Rivet Preening Tool for them as well. As far as size goes Mine are 9" long 8" wide at the forearm and 5" wide at the wrist. I then round the corners.

What is the Best Way to Remove the Chrome Off Tools
wildland replied to ArtS's topic in How Do I Do That?
It wasn't a big loss. When craftool says that their cheaper tools are made from a softer metal they aren't kidding. I always thought it meant a cheaper grade of steal, but apparently it means lead and tin. -
What is the Best Way to Remove the Chrome Off Tools
wildland replied to ArtS's topic in How Do I Do That?
I thought I would try removing the chrome from one of my craftool stamps this morning and just wanted to share the result with everyone. The silver blob on the vice is what is left of the head of the stamp. Apparently it was made from pewter. All I used on it was a cheap propane torch that barely melts solder. -
I will take anything you would like to e-mail me, and I really appreciate the offer. chris_l_ross@msn.com Dose "Leather Braiding" cover different lacing styles for around the edges of stuff as well?

I am getting ready to start adding lacing to the edges of my work and wanted to know what people thought would be the best book or books for learning the different ways of doing this.

really nice!! I may have to make myself some of those to sit on at the local renfair. If you don't mind sharing what are the dimensions on the triangle.

Mare's Leg holster
wildland replied to badger's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I'm a huge Firefly fan and love to see others as enthusiastic about it as me. The piece is beautifully crafted. -
I like the tri-weave a lot I got the stamp a few months back but this is the first chance I have had to use it Its all about getting the first line right for me. If I get it right it all just seems to fall into place. I haven't planed on lining this one I might thou. Thanks for the kind comments guys!!!

Evolution of a note pad
wildland replied to Timd's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I think one of those might need to become on of my next projects. My dad suffers from MS and it really messes with his short term memory. I have tried to get him to carry a note pad, but he says that it makes him fill goofy having to write every thing down. Maybe if he has a nice fancy notebook cover to show off he will fill better about it.
