-
nice !! looks like you are making good progress with this set of reins. cant wait to see them finished. how does the four plait feel with the leather core. is is more flexible ? how are you going to build up for the buttons? well like i said before looks great keep the pics coming i like the way you show progress on your projects.

very nice when ever you can could yo post some pics of the way you make the transition ? i like it very much it looks simple yet very showy. great job

bevan dont know what kind of horse this is going on yet. like i said i havent been riding in years. im in the military so for know i just do this for fun. i havnt shaped it yet like i mentioned it was just finished when i took the pics. the heel knot is just for show i wanted to do some thing diferent than what every one does so this is what i came up with. i didnt use anything to shape it except for my imagination and building up the tape and rawhide where i wanted it to be. the rest is having some knotting knowledge and inteweiving the base knot in different areas to fill in gaps. so in other words part of the heel knot is two pass another is three pass and others four pass. because of the odd shape partial interweaves was necesarry but they are all meant to keep the same hearing bone pattern with the nested bits of a pinneaple. maybe this clears up a little? the whole point of this bosal was to do something different !!! the body is knot the same old braid the nose button is done different the heel is done different just to mix things up and to challenge my self a bit. i've seen your work it's great congrats

very nice very nice i saw it up close and it is smooth . the t is a great idea and it worked out really good. nice job Brian

hey you guys sorry it took me a while havnt checked in for a littlebit. the bosal was just finished when we took the pics of the finished "phase" i do have some pics of the heel knot foundation, it think i do Brian and I tried to take pics of some of the process but not sure what we got. i basically tied togeter all four ends and trimed the covers (small lace) and used the core laces to do a back braid the length of the heel. i latter put some ring knots around the area where the bulges would be and built it up with cotton athletic strips in the shape i wanted. ( i am guilty of using tape but atleast it wasnt other kind of tape) after the coton was built up nice and tight i covered it in at very fine foamy athletic tape just to mask the white color of the cotton. the foundation knot is a two pass 8 bit x ?part (increased the 2bit long TH like in grants book) and then i interwove several different 8bit knots on the bulges to cover the gaps. along the nose button i used whipping and a litttle bit of tape to round off the little ledges created by the whiping and did some fid work with a back braid on one end to give it the pinneaple look at the ends of the nose button. i also put some ring knots and 7x6 turks head on the ends of the button underneath the fidwork to make the little bulges a little bigger. woowwo thats alot of bla bla bla from me. hoo nad since i havnt been riding in years dont know how well it will work but i deffineatly wanted it to be functional and showy. i was pleased with it even though i can improve on the next one. thanks for looking and commenting you guys take care. PS. hoo i forgot to mention its all horse rawhide except for the tape ofcourse.

very very !!! nice it is a great lookin halter, the horse hair and the silver go great together. the knots look great. by the way the way you tied the herring bone with a nested pass is refered to as a horn knot in Tom Hall's intro to turks heads. great job

very nice i like the patern changes you made. is this a single string with interweaves or a multistring nose button? over all looks very nice.

here is the pic of the second section. dont pay atention to how i set up for the pattern because that all depends on how it is started as you can see at the beggining after the ring knot it starts over two but in this section after the crown knots it starts right away u1 05 in the first string the rest of the passes for the first string is u4o4u1o4u1o4 the first and second pass differ by one and then the pattern is o4u1o4 the rest of the strings follow as i explained before the most important thing is to watch you rpattern rather than follow a run list, thats what i did keep in mind when you want to transition out it will change a bit and take some work t keep the pattern consistent and set up for the pattern change. take care sorry i cant explain more i dont have a run list that i followed i just developed it as i went. keep in mind that this is usually done on a more cylindrical object i was a bit ambitious to try and do it on this kind of shape, as it posses problems for the ground work wich take more attetntion to detail. it would be best to start out on strait cylinders. and progress from there. hope this helps if not give me a shout and i will respond as i get a chance. chek out the videos Knothead (Brian) posted on the other thread they are almost all done and his web site is great to look at also. take care.

thank you all for your feed back i am happy that ya'll like it and at least it will help me keep going. aggie the pattern starts off where the ring knot is located. and it starts off as over two (in that section )from their i am working in sets of five the first string goes o5u4o4u1o4u1o4u1 and the pattern is evident after that fot the first strand the second string goes u2(after the over 2 as all the rest will follow) o1u4, third 02u3 forth u3o3u2 fifth ou404u1 the pattern repeats its self as you go but basically the first string is key and always working in sets of five as you can see the overs and unders always add up to five so every over and under adds up to 5 after the first pass. the second section is better to observe than the beggining as the pattern was developed better as i worked it out i will try to post another pic so you can look at it better Jerry i think the quote is from Bruce Grant and thank you indeed for your comments. on the other hand like you say " this inspires" well comments like your and those of others along with my passion for the art is waht motivates me to keep going and getting better thanks and i'd like to see one of your whips when you can post one. i really do agree with the quote you mention, it has taken me a long time to get to where im at yet i think i can still improve alot. take care ya'll

here is another handle i've been working on these last couple of days. i made it with 20 strands (40 total) of horse rawhide. i can see alot of things i could have done better mainly because i made it and i am very critical of my own work but lets see what ya'll think? the pattern is a modification of made to a similar one i saw in a book any way here it is.

looks like the videos are fixed thanks brian !! if any one else notices a problem let brian know haaa
-
looks very nice !!
-
wow only you can do it Brian only you thanks alot really. this is great and im sure alot of people will like it.
-
thanks every one !!! for those who wanted to know more about the way this is all done keep an eye on this thread, Brian (knothead) is will have something cool for ya'll. he made me do it
-
thanks you every one for the comments. this kind of work is not really that hard as far as the fid work. the prep is what takes most of the time and setting up the lace takes a little patience to lay down the ground work. after the ground work is done making the developing the pattern is not to difficult, the pattern just depends on you. Brian is working on something fro you guys that you will like. take care
-
thanks ya'll but Brian is the mastermind behind this it was his idea. he gave me a dowel and a piece of goat rawhide so i carved it out and shaped it with my dremmel later i cut some lace and got started. he made me do it !! thanks for posting it also. it is a handle for a fid with "fidwork" on it. take care. some specs. 18 1/8" wide laces. not to manny but it worked.
-
nice i like it !!! no coment on the legs LOL but make some more.

you allready seemed to have burried the ends so you might have to re do the whole thing. atleats thats what it looks like to me but over all its all a learning process. keep it up
