Horse is EXCELLENT for braiding and yes it is thinner than bovine raw hide it is very strong. The belly is much thinner than the back but perfect fir very fine things. I used it a bunch for fid work and other projects. South American braid ears use it a lot for their work along with softened Hereford rawhide for its reddish color. If the horse was a dark color sometimes it will come through in the raw hide and give great effects.

Hello every one !! I have been offered a USMC model "Z" skiving machine. She looks good, but i know very little about these machines and would like to reach out to ya'll. just my two cents but this seems to be more like a "wrap" rather than a knot, the reason i say so is because the patterns are different and second which is more convincing for me is that the bits on top/bottom and sides seem two "stack" on top of each other sort of like an interwoven two bit knot except that you have them on four sides. well im not sure if the last part is very clear but you might look for "wraps" i think i saw a youtube video that resembled this alot or was at least very similar. not sure what it was called though.

R Edwards shows the 12 strand trenza patria at the end of the book round knots. advanced leather work. i have a few trenza patria's in my spnaish book but their packed up some where let me see if i have something digital and i will try to post it.

just my two cents i am fluent in spanish and a "pasador" knot is not really a type of knot. it is a term used by Argentine braiders to describe a long cylindrical knot. it is basically a long turks head most often with a gaucho intewieve but not always. as long as you can tie a long turks head and you basically tied a "passador". it was originally meant to be a sliding knot in traditional argentine tack. a long turks head can be interwoven with a gaucho pattern following the rules of a basic 5x4 turks head gaucho knot as described by Bruce grant but in the last pass it will have an incomplete pattern. i would recommend the argentine book Trenzas gauchas available on amazon.com. the book has a "barquero" knot which is a passador the only thing is that if you dont understand spanish it will be hard to understand. i would also recommend learning how to tie a long turks head liek bruce grant describes with an even number of bits and putting a herring bone interweave this would be a "passador pluma" pluma describes the way the pattern ressembles a feather. sorry i dont have a tutorial. hope this helps to clear up what a pasador is, a long sliding knot.

Acox i agree with Brian 100%, Just my two cents i found that depending on the hide i will adjust the width of my rough cut. some hides have more stretch than others so i will cut a tester strand and try out how much stratch is in the hide. usually the outer end parts have more stretch than the inner parts of the hide even after you trim it, if the hide is not a great one. a great hide will have very little stretch but they all have some. so try it out first. hope this helps
