Need Help -- Broken Back Piece On Custom Logo Stamp (Pic)
AZ09 replied to BHPshooter's topic in Leather Tools
Use a C Clamp and a small block to impress the image if feasible.to project size... When using a C Clamp be cautious of over stamping, you can impress the sides of the stamp if your not carful.. When done correctly the imprint is flawless and superior to "pounding in" the design. -
great idea, what kind of weight does it have?

Newbie Needs Advice On Setting Up A Work Bench
AZ09 replied to SimonJester753's topic in How Do I Do That?
FWIW I always build my benches to accommodate me standing. I then use a science lab chair to sit at the bench. So basically I get the best of both worlds. Now Al Stholman made a simple seated work area you can search around for the plans. Also I found for leather working I prefer to have my bench accessible on all sides. I tend to make my tops a minimum of 6x10.Again allot depends on your shop space. remember to build them sturdy. -
TT, Thanks for the link..Ive never come across a striped one like that one you have.. I've always found my "few"good knobs in 2nd hand type stores and yard sales here in the county. Never made real special handles for them. Usually Oak or Cherry wood scrap rounds I bum off a local cabinet maker After drilling I secure with a super set epoxy resin. The reason I dont have one nowis I tend to give things away to friends and people I meet that express interest. Right now I use a couple of those " Hemingray"green or clear glass insulators used on the old wooden telephone pole cross ties. Make pretty nifty edge slickers to. Here for visual of the different models Tal~

SWEET!! That amber stripped one caught my eye!! If your selling it shoot me a PM! Where did you pick up your knobs at? Tal~

Hello Good Friends, I'm going to start making some tobacco pouches "Roll/fold over" type first then progress from there. I'm in need of your helpful suggestions please .. * What would be the leather choice Kip, Pig, Deer, Elk, chap??? Natural or pre dyed * Should I line the inside of the pouch to prevent crossover contamination? If so what should I line it with? * Any one have patterns or a source for patterns * I alo plan to make pipe pouches also. I'm an open book here, Peace Tal~

Jmorton, A porcelin door knob can make do as a passable "ssmasher" so can the old timely glass insulaters that were used on the "wooden" telephone poles to string wire to way back when.. I also would like to find one made from wood if anyone has a contact site etc. Tal~

FYI In spanish "pompies" (pompy) means butt cheeks more in line with english language term "BUNS" Tal~

Thats a cool old tool... I do to keep my bx cutter razors and exacto blades sharp is what I do for blades in general. Strop with jewlers rouge on manilla file card board. Buff/polish edge with Flitz that I impregnate on a piece of denim. tTal~

I keep mne sharp enough to shave my arm clean. But I'm addicted to accurate firearms and sharp blades. As sharp as I keep my swivel knife it glides through leather like hot butter flows (no blade chatter) and allows me to keep a lighter touch. I use varying degrees of wet/dry sand paper that I spay glue onto a sheet of glass. Strop on a manilla file folder and finally buff edge with Flitz. The better the edge is polished the better the tool preforms. Tal~

ooops! Sorry about the poor quality control on my links It was late and the feature was new to me.LOL Thank-you guys for fixin' things.. The paper wheels are truly a breeze to master Tal~

Hi Rob, I can help on this.. The answer to your question is "paper wheels" on a buffer Your can make your knife "vorpal" sharp in a New York minute w/o risking damage to the blade. It's an easy learning curve. I was intirduced to them over a year ago and have been a devotee since. I 've been a traditional "whet stone" sharpener since 1969. The one thing the paper wheels do not provide is the "Zen meditation" or Mushin (mind of no mind) that gliding a blade over a stone gives ... Now, the wheels are easy to use and affordable. Go Here and read through the entirethread. Richard J. is the guy with the knowledge. I also use his technique of the one o'clock hold with the wheel spinning towards me... I puchase my 8 in wheels from Grizzly Tools wheels and a buffer from harbor frieght buffer . I practised sharpening with a pack of cheap hack saw blade edges to get the feel. I then set my sites to the kitchen... W/in the first hour I had the the brides kitchen knives cutting like light sabers, then I convinced the neighbors to give me their kitchen tools. It's that easy. Goog Luck LMK if you have any questions Peace Tal~
