  2. Bison thank you for the reply. Your journal looks great! Can I ask you what type of thread you used on this one? Looks thick. I am going to check hobby lobby out thanks for the information. John
  3. I am surprised no one has made a post all week on here. So I thought I would ask some people who may know. Ok I was wondering where to find a heavy weight paper for a journal for as cheap as possable. I was wanting to find some that when folded would be 8 1/2 x 11 so 11x17 I guess. I looked online and did find alot of places selling paper but all were really pricey. And it was mostly regular weight paper. Is that what alot of you use when making a journal? I am still working on my bookcover but I am looking in to making it into a journal cover IF for some reason my measurment in width ends up being off and the book will not fit. This way I can salvage it and make it into something else just in case. Besides I buy a hand made journal for my daaughter every year. Now that I recently got in to leatherwork I could make her one. Just getting some info on it for future use. If anyone knows of a good source that won't cost me my first born please let me know. Also do they make paper with lines so when it is folded the journal will have lined paper? Thank you in advance. John
  4. This should have stayed in the Patterns and Templates section. As that is what it talks about. Yes it is a suggestion but if you read the comment there is no way to know what section the poster intended it to be in. "I was wondering if anyone else would like to see a seperate folder in this topic (Patterns and Templates) were people can post their pdf's of patterns? If we get enough interested is this something that could easily be done mod gods?" It almost seems like someone doesn't want to see this happen if there going to take it out of the proper section. Otherwise no one will know what "section" the auther was talking about. John
  5. That sounds like a great resource. It would be fitting for this area. John
  6. Thanks for the replies. Like I said a random thought. I don't have any I am currently trying to get out or anything. Reading about the glass slicker is what made me think of it. I was thinking about veg tan leather when wet and secured down. I would have tried it if I had a roller. Think I have a wrinkled piece somewhere. John
  7. Thanks for the reply Ferg. I'll have to remember about the 'dough' thing. If I had a rolling pin I would try it on some scrap just to see it was a random thought anyway. Thought I would share and see what people thought. John
  8. Ok strange question here. I read about people using a glass slicker to even out and remove wrinkles on leather. I was thinking about it and wondered. Can a rolling pin do the same thing as far as flattening and removing wrinkles? Sorry if this is the wrong area to ask I wasn't sure. Anyone try this? I was thinking metal roller. John
  9. Thanks alot Pete. Big help on this for me. Murse thanks for your contribution and pic's as well. Also some good idea's. Big help guy's really appreciate it. John
  10. Thank you Pete and Murse for your replies and pictures. Pete don't worry about it. I do have a question Pete. When you say add the thickness of the linning to the spine? What do you mean exactly? Murse I like the idea of leaving 1/4-1/2 at the ends good tip. I think I am going to go with a linner of 2/3 oz veg tan black goat skin. I thought about it and since I have never linned anything before why not try it now. Pete when going with a linner. I only glue around the edge and on the spine right? Or would I cover the whole linner with glue? Thank you. john
  11. Thank you for the replies. That's all I needed to know. Great help thank you. john
  12. Well pete thank you for the reply. As to 'What I mean """ Does anyone have a picture of this so I can see what this may look like??? This would help alot. Thank you.'''' That is what I mean pete. Being as I am just starting out and don't know any better. I guess from time to time a beginer may ask some stupid questions. but to me and alot of other people the only stupid question is one that is not asked. If it is upsetting to you then don't reply. I thought this would be a place for a person to ask questions and maybe learn from the people who know. John
  13. Can ANYONE explain this better???? Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeee! John
  14. I would like to know if a granite slab 9x12 x2 inch thick piece be good enough for tooling or would I need 3 inch thick? Please let me know. Thank you. John
  15. I have a question. I have been told to measure the center of the spine then the thickness of the spine add 1/4 inch to it and split it in half and mark that on either side center. Then V gauge it then remove material in between with a french bevelaer. Question is if I remove this material won't it show if the inside of the cover is unlined??? Does anyone have a picture of this so I can see what this may look like??? This would help alot. Thank you. John
  16. tg lucas guess you been busy. Been waiting to see what you came up with. John P.S Anyone know an answer to my previous question?????????????? John
  17. A beer bottle? Really? Crazy! Thanks for the information I'll have to get that pattern. John
  18. I do have a question. If I am not using a lining on the inside. Wouldn't V gauging to lines in the spine area and then using the french skiver to clean the area in between look bad or at least be seen when the book is in it? Seems like it would. Does anyone have a picture of this area? So I can see what you mean. I must be seeing it differantly in my head then you describe. John
