  5. Restricted by $$ and time.... I've had been planning on getting a hydraulic press to make into a clicker when my husband surprised me with a deal he found at the local equipment auction. I know that the "real deal" might be worth the investment but we are working diligently to get OUT of debt... not further in. So, here is my project.... It is a Soiltest CT-769 Compression Machine. This machine was used to compress soil samples for testing. Obviously old and no longer being manufactured.. all I could find online was a company that calibrates them. We cranked it up and with some work from my handyman hubby he figures we'll have no problem turning it into my clicker. For now I'll obviously be limited to smaller patterns but it is a start. If you can read the dial this machine goes up to 250,000 lbs. NOT 25K but 250K! So, my concern is crushing a die on accident. I don't really think that with as slow as the ram moves, this will be too much of a problem but I've never used ANY kind of clicker. Does anyone know the max that most dies can handle. If we can figure that out, maybe my husband can put a "governor" of sorts on it. I've read in some posts that many of you just lie the plate steel on top of your die instead of welding it or attaching it to the ram. If you had a welder handy, would you recommend welding it? Is there any reason not to? What material is recommended to make the cutting pad out of? Poly cutting board?
  6. I'm interested in dies if you are selling them separately. I'm looking for spur strap dies, concho dies, latigo and cinch holder dies, headstall & breast collar dies. Just getting started with a clicker so I'm open to a lot of things... these are just at the top of my list. I need some asap so my husband can get my clicker tuned up and ready to work. You can email or call or I can call you when my phone is charged back up!! barcsaddlery@yahoo.com 352-572-2983 Thanks,
  7. Do you have dimensions and weight on this machine? Could I get a shipping quote to 34785 and a ball park figure of what you're looking to get for it? Thanks, Natalie
  8. LMAO!! Thanks guys! I'm glad I'm not the only one who thoroughly enjoys stitch picking!! My farrier plays polo and wreaks havoc on tack.... LOTS of sweat and NO cleaning. Always brings the dirty hard sweaty leather with stitches to match to me. Unfortunately most English tack has no stitch groove but at least most repairs are small areas!! I have a saddle awaiting relining in my shop and was dreading that chore so thanks for the tip!!
  9. Thank you so much for the replies. VERY helpful. I'm not going to bid on it but if anyone is near Lost Wages it's ending in about 4 hours on ebay and is pick-up only. Bid is currently at $338 but seller states there are 52 watchers.
  10. Thank you all! Kevin- It was really nice talking with you and I look forward to paying you a visit as soon as possible! Wizcrafts- Thanks, I hadn't heard of the Cowboy and I'm going to contact Bob to learn about those machines; I like to be sure I know as much as I can about all my options before making a purchase. I don't do a lot of decorative stitching but definitely want to have the option if I need to, so it's good to know that most can. Dirtclod - I'm starting to think that since I need a new home sewing machine too, I might just have to get a heavier duty one that can pitch in with some garment leather etc!! Thanks. Stelmackr - I looked at this machine and it looks like a nice one. Unfortunately I'd like something that could accommodate thicker than 1/2 inch and heavier than 207 thread since I'm getting into saddle making and do more heavy work than light. Looked at some of their bigger machines and they are out of my price range. Thank you so much for the information!
  11. I've been working with leather for about 13 years. About 8 years ago I moved up in the world from hand stitching to a Tippmann Boss hand stitcher (whoo hoo!!). It usually gets the job done but rarely very neatly in my experience. It is not quite versatile enough for me any more. The rest of my work has greatly improved in quality while I feel the machine stitching is lacking. I've been looking for a more versatile machine that will produce quality and consistency. The Boss doesn't seem to handle the lighter materials very well (or I just haven't figured out how). I want something that will neatly sew extremely light to extremely heavy leather. There are of course the Adler machines in my Weaver catalog that are a bit out of reach financially.... then I've been looking at the Artisan Toro And the Cobra Class 3. Are there any comparable to these two out there that I'm missing? What do you sew with and what do you recommend? Do any of these machines do decorative stitching? Many, Many Thanks in Advance!! Natalie
  12. JimBob.... I found an Adler 30-70 for sale and am wondering if you know much about the machine and its capabilities. I currently sew most projects by hand or with my Tippmann Boss hand stitcher. I'm looking for something that is more versatile and can be used in saddle work with a long arm and can get in tight places. Do you know how thick of leather it can handle? Many Thanks, Natalie
  13. I am selling a beautiful custom silver show saddle built by Leonard Galvin under the Shirley Brown Saddlery name. From my research that makes the saddle made sometime between 1973 and 1979 making it's age 30 to 37 years old. Excellent condition. Selling with matching silver breast collar and headstall. PM with any questions. See pictures here: http://barcleather.shutterfly.com/190 $1500
  14. This sounds very interesting. Anyone know of a link to see a picture of one??
