Eric, I just watched your video for about the 5th time and I have another question. It appears that in the process of cutting the stitch grooves you are creating grooves in all areas EXCEPT where there will be stitching. This seems particularly evident in the area around the rear belt loop where the two halves are folded together and stitched. Is this because your Tippmann Boss sewing machine creates it's own stitch groove as it stitches? Always curious about the details, Lance

Particle, I'm just a hobbyist who is on my 2nd holster, and this video is going to be a huge help to me. There are a lot of great tips in there! The simple act of watching you create belt loops using a drill press and a chisel has already saved me the $40.00 I was going to spend on a 1 1/2" punch at Tandy. Thanks! One quick question - Where in the manufacturing process of the video holster did the baking in the oven for stiffening happen? After the boning process & before the application of neatsfoot oil right? Bake at 120 for about 40 min if I recall correctly from another thread. Thanks for sharing, -Lance

Hello, I'm brand new at leather working and at holster making. My next holster will be a thumb break design for retention. Many commercially available holsters use a small very thin metal plate behind the female side of the snap to increase the amount of leverage your thumb can exert on the snap when opening it. Has anyone ever seen a heavy duty "holster" type snap sold that comes with the thin metal backer plate? Or is this small metal piece likely a proprietary item manufactured by individual makers? I have checked alot of sites (incl' Ohio Travel Bag) without luck. Thanks for any help!

Hello, I lurk here mostly for tips on holster making as that is my primary leather interest, but your post caught my eye because I too would like to make a leather jacket and have had zero luck in finding a good pattern. Since your post has gotten zero replies in almost a month, I figure this is as good a place as any to submit my 1st post. One idea that I have come across (I forget where), is to look for a very inexpensive jacket (at Goodwill, flea market, etc) that is of the general design that you want to copy-emulate, and then carefully cut & disassemble that jacket in order to use it as your pattern. The article wouldn't necessarily even have to be made of leather. My ideal motorcycle jacket would be something on the lines of a Fox Creek Commander, or perhaps a "Classic"... http://www.foxcreekl...nsjackets.phtml ...with a gun pocket, & with articulated & hardened internal leather armor ( ie, couir boulli) built in to the jacket.
