Those of you who hand sew skirts with waxed linen. By pulling the thread through news paper print, the sheep skin will not pull through.... an ole trick i learned in school and will never forget. It toke all day to sew those skirts by hand. with waxed linen thread.do you mean a layer between the shearing and skirt leather? Don

lovely holster and finishing he will love it, Don
-
Thanks Don. They are great inspiration. How did you finish the scabbard? I finished a holster with the Tandy one step stuff and don't like how it looks. I am looking for a golden to rust colored finish for a shoulder holster that I am working on.
the scabbard was finished with fibings oil dye saddle tan just a light even coat then oiled
Hi,I'd like to know how to get this kind of finish, too. It's very very beautiful.
On the first photo, how do you make the "U.S." logo ? I want to a WII inpired holster for a 1911.
Thanks !!!
the US is a Stamp that i had made from a very good french reenactor friend PLM that also makes outstanding leatherwork

Jon,Great work. I have liked seeing everything posted. I like your tooling style, and like Art said, we all have something to aspire to.
And as an aside to everyone, I personally want to thank ALL of the talented makers and just as importantly the folks asking questions. Especially in the last couple months, the amount of knowledge kicked around here has been phenomenal. It can only improve the whole industry when the bar is raised, and there are so many hands pulling the rest of us up and over. Thanks to everyone.
First of Jon lovely saddles and top workmanship,
there are so manny talented saddlers here its amazing, although i love the old style saddles i still recognice beutifull workmanship in a modern style saddle, and as Bruce mensioned here i have learned so much by reading these topics and looking at the pics from you guys,
its knowledge that you dont find in any books or vids and i for one am truly greatfull to all of you saddlers that are willing to pass on this valuble info and share youre experience so openly its one of a kind felowmanship (is that a word) anyway i dont want to hijack to mutch i just wanted to let you know how much its apresiated, Don

Cecil i love that belt its so wild west its got it all going for it, its preiceless really but you will find some lucky guy thats going to want it just dont sell yourself short, if you got to sell it at a gun show keep in the back of your head what the price of a box of ammo costs and they dont think twice about spending a couple of thousand on a hand gun, great belt, Don
