  1. Thanks for the suggestion. It was worth a try. I did that, heard the click but now the wheel won't turn in the forward motion. Figures! lol!
  2. Argh! Can't get my needle to pick up the bobbin thread. Can you help? See my post in Sewing Machines...

  3. So I realize this is a long shot, but I thought it was worth a try before I called a service guy and dropped a bunch of money on the problem. My machine was working just fine and then I put in a bobbin that I later realized wasn't wound properly. After I realized the thread was too loose on the bobbin, I took it out and tried to replace it with a bobbin that was wound better. Well, now the needle won't pick up the bobbin thread. In fact, the bobbin actually won't rotate at all when the needle plate is on the machine. I took off the needle plate and it will rotate but the thread still isn't picking up. What's up with that? Do you think I got some thread jammed between the bobbin and the shuttle that isn't visible? I unscrewed all the parts I could get to with the screw driver sizes I have at home but I can't figure out how to get the shuttle out to see if something is jammed. There are 2 screws on the side of the shuttle that are too close to the other parts for my screw driver to fit in there. any suggestions? I can provide photos if necessary. Thanks! Failing that, I'm In Columbus, OH does anyone have any favorite repair people. The guy I used to use seems to have gone awol. Northland Sewing Center gave me the number of a guy named Danny. But, I'm a bit hesitant to pay $75+ for someone I have no references for.
  4. Be super careful about even slightly damp environments! I had some patent leather develop mildew on it from being stored too closely to the rest of my hides! I have actually been considering wrapping each hide in butcher paper to see if that might help cut down on mildew and color transfer on lighter colored hides.
  5. Really killer work! I'd love to have either of those pieces in my house!
  6. Sorry for the late response! I was given this guy's contact info by a friend who worked for a sewing machine shop. His name is Steve (937) 481-1791 and he did the repairs for the shop she worked at. I believe she said he was from the Dayton area, but I'm not 100% sure. I seem to remember hearing that he did house calls for industrial machines, not sure about what area he was willing to travel though. But I figure it's worth investigating! Hope this helps!
  7. Wow! Impressive work! The officer's boots are just gorgeous!

    Leather Collar

Very cool studs on that collar! Would you be comfortable sharing the source?
  9. Thanks! I spent about 1 hour just stitching down the applique on one panel. There are 9! Yikes!

  10. Gloves can be incredibly challenging for the most experienced leatherworker. And the deer hide will probably be too stretchy and soft for most style of belts. I agree with Jeeperaz, some sort of pouch or simple bag will probably be your best bet.
  11. Where in Ohio are you? I might know someone who can help you.
  12. Really helpful advice! Thanks guys! Funnily enough, on my current project I find my self using "Joyce Chen" cooking shears. lol! A silversmith friend turned me on to them, as they were her preferred tool for cutting thin sheet silver. Turns out they are fantastic for really thin, soft lambskin too!
  13. Wow, nice gallery pics. It's really interesting to see shoe and boot construction!

  14. Wow! Outstanding mask! Truly creative. :)

  15. How old are they? It could be a really funny group photo with 70 kids all dressed up with the artificial 6-pack breast plates. It would look like the children's version of the movie 300! lol!
  16. I'm a big fan of this stuff called Sewer's Aid which comes in a squeeze bottle. You can run a thin line of it along the outside of your spool of thread every so often as you sew and it makes sure the thread runs smoothly. It is a lifesaver for metallic and other decorative threads. I also used it when I was getting overly ambitious about sewing a lot of layers on a domestic machine and it really helped things sew more easily, especially true if you're experiencing thread breaking often.
  17. This is awesome, subject matter & execution.
  18. Si vous desirez l'aide, ecrivez-moi. Je vous aide avec plaisir.
  19. You might also like to check out some of those Dover books for design, usually Barnes and Nobles stocks a good selection in their art book section. Personally, I am a big fan of putting Art Nouveau designs with skulls.
  20. Thanks so much, Wizcrafts, for taking the time to write such a thorough response! I really appreciate it!
  21. Cool! I've seen your work on Etsy! Very nice!
