  1. Todd, I have had the same problem. I used some cow hide split as a pad. I cut a disk about the size of a quarter and used an adhesive to secure it to the anvil. A cleaning patch may be to thin to serve your needs, Try it what's the worst that can happen?

  3. Ferg, Will the cement reactivate it's self? By this I mean If you apply More fresh adhesive will it soften the old stuff? If so consider applying a small amount of fresh adhesive (just enough to loosen up the excess and scrape as much as you can away.. Work a small area so it doesn't dry up before you finish. after line your piece like you normally would. Good luck,

  6. Cal, Kevin Is using the lining to hide and protect his work. The lining he selected not only is doing the basic lining job but it's adding a bit of class to the project. kevins selection of color looks great. Your question about the edging is a simple one to answer. the edging is a simple edge piping. While a magician never reviles his secretes. I doesn't seem fair to disclose Kevin's here. You asked: So my first question is after gluing lining to work peace do you run a line of stitches along all edges? Q.2 – How close to the edge does the stitching need to be? Q.3- do you treat (oil) lining or anything to make softer or more pliable? Q. 4- How did Kevin K. do this great roll over without any stitching showing?? Kevin must have asked himself the same questions. It is obvious that he found the answer. I bet this is not his first piece. I think it's time for you to follow in kevins foot steps. do some R&D figure it out and let us know how it's going. after you get some pics posted we can help by critiquing your work (that's how people do it around here}
  7. Allow your mentor to guide you as he or she sees fit or you may end up with a pile of books you don't need.
  8. Joe, Now we have some information to work with. I would suggest finding a guild or a Tandy Leather store. most Tandy stores teach basic leather working and with a little bit of effort you should be able to make the crock wallet you are showing in the photo. Leather work is like most skills built one simple skill after another. I would put my efforts into pattern development and the lacing technique. Don;t make the newbie mistake by not leaving enough room for the outer shell to wrap around the inner components when closed. The lacing while simple requires and attention to detail that can lead to frustration if your not prepared for it. i.e. inadvertently twisting the lace only to discover the error at the last moment and having to re do it. Your Tandy mentor will provide some starter kits that have all been precut with detailed instructions so you can learn the skills without a big investment. Regarding the black wallet the disciplines involved are in most part the same. Pattern making, ease, and fit that unfortunately is where the similarity's end. Sewing with a machine is a simple process but like anything it takes a bit of skill building and after a few tries you should be OK.. The key is having access to the proper equipment for the job at hand. While most machines look alike they sew or stitch different textiles differently. Machines can range from a couple hundred dollars to thousands depending on the model and it's capacity. my next machine is going to cost me about $5000 and it won't sew anything as lite as a wallet. May I be so bold as to suggest starting slow without spending lots of money, get some skills, expand on them and build your tools as you need them. Again your local Tandy operator will be glad to help along the way. There may be a guild in your community that can be helpful as well. Good luck Most importantly have fun and let us know how things are going for you, Al
  9. Ok Joe, I'll bite at your post. I must say It's posts like this that chap my hide!! For one be as vague as possible. How can we help you if we have no hint to your location or experience? Can you afford to do this and at what level? Do you want to make one wallet or one hundred or a thousand? If you want a good useful answer you need to disclose a bit of information. I know you THINK you have a great idea and are gonna get rich with it , but in this forum there is nothing we haven't seen or done. With leather products as with any other endeavor its not the idea that gets the sale it's all in the marketing. Please be mindful that the kind people at Leatherworker.net are freely giving of there time and knowledge. There is and old saying around computers "Trash in trash out' With all due respect your questions lack the minimum information necessary to provide you with a quality answer.

  20. Mike Davis Mike Davis With Rob Halford Roy Z I made: vest and 3 pair pants for Roy Z along with a pair pants and jacket for Mike Davis This project was a first for me as I had never been able to make contact with Rob Halford. or Judas priest. last year I out fitted a Tribute act known as Just Like Priest.http://www.facebook.com/pages/Shades-of-Crimson/118493604866390?ref=ts&v=wall#!/justlikepriest?ref=ts Roy Z is a recording engineer that works with Judas Priest Fight and Halford to name a few. http://www.royzmusic.com/ Franc Casciato, the singer for Just Like Priest has a original band, Shades of Crimson. http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/pages/Shades-of-Crimson/118493604866390?ref=ts While Shades of Crimson Recorded There album with Roy Z. Franc showed Roy my work and now we are one step closer to Halford. I have not made anything for Rob as of yet. The unveiling of the new wardrobe went well and Rob was impressed with the level of detail with my work. The Fight camp will be back in December to finish recording with Roy and I will have another opportunity to make contact with there organization. Rob has been dressed by Agatha Bliois http://www.agathaleather.net/ for over ten years and is extremely loyal to her work but if i get to make just one piece for this mega rock star my child hood dream will have come true.
