Hi All, I am setting up a slide show of our trip to Tucson next week. I am looking for some (free !)western style fonts. I have 'Tombstone' but am looking for something that is not all CAPS. Even a 19th century style font would be useful. I am hoping to have text pages running interwoven with the photos, rather like a silent movie, so any suggestions would be most welcome. Is anyone else around Tucson in early May? Regards Alan

Many Thanks for all your comments. I suppose that the result is 'Suck it and see'. It would be great to try all these blades but, there always is a but, I live in a remote place in a forest in the north of England. If you could see the additional charges I face from customs and excise, boy, would your eyes water. This is along with gas at $9.80 for a US gallon. My wife and I are off to Tucson in 10 days. We will be hitting the local Tandy store. I suppose that I will have to try the ceramic blades and come to my own conclusion. Your comments have been most welcome. Keep Karving. Alan

Hi All, I am considering trying out a ceramic blade for my swivel knife. I would be interested in the views of members who have tried or even considered them. We all search for the best blade but we all, certainly me, do not have unlimited budgets. I look forward to your comments. Regards to all

Hi, I go along with the idea of a decent marble slab to use for tooling. I got a great piece from my local grave - stone maker. It is about 24" by 18" and 1" thick. He gave me it for free as it was a broken piece they thad no use for. Give it a try Cheers

Hi Clay That will be stunning piece - already is !!! It is very frustrating over here in England - no classes - Tapes won't play (NTSC vs PAL SECAM) and most US dvd's won't play (Region 1 etc) I'm stuck with books and, thank goodness, this forum. Thanks for the post. Alan C

Hi, I came across some work by Thomas Bewick, an 18th Cent engraver who lived and worked not far from me in North East England. His origional wood blocks are incredible. All are no bigger than 3"x3". They were cut to ilustrate natural history books. In the right hands I think that they could make great leather work patterns. I'm posting a couple, If anybody would like a specific bird or animal, let me know and I'll see what I can dig out. Cheers Al

Hi All Many thanks for the constructive critisism. It was very helpful. I am particularly interested in the comments about casing. I use the "dampen wait ten minutes and go" system. I look forward to trying the altenative. Thanks again Al -
Hi Johanna, Many thanks for the link: "---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Belarc reveals software and product keys. Run & print periodically in the event you need to restore your computer. http://www.belarc.com/free_download.htm -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------" This has got to be one of the most useful bits of freeware I have stumbled across. Thanks BigAlC

Greetings from Hamsterly Forest in Northern England. I have been working with leather for around three years but since I retired from my Real Job I want to do much more. I find it hard to single out an individual area of work as my favorite but I enjoy Sheridan style work and hope to do more figure carving. I am grateful to those who set up this forum. I have felt quite isolated at times. This is just what the doctor ordered. I got the taste for western carving when I lived in Tucson AZ a few years ago. It is great to have more time to practice and learn. Keep up the good work Al

Hi All, I have downloaded the ebooks from Tandy and think that they are great, particularly the leather and wood pair. They are a hell of a thing for me because here in England there are next to no leather carving books tools or supplies available. Everything I need has to be shipped from the USA and Customs Duty means that I end up paying double the price. When I have a vacation over there I take empty luggage out but it is full to overflowing when I come back. Also thanks for this forum. It is great to catch up on chit chat and news. Keep up the good work Al
