Looks like Hoffman Bros. in Chicago bought out the Ferdco line and have them in production. Ferdco was in business a long time, any one have any recent experience with this modern Super Bull? Looks like there are lots of presser feet available for many different applications. Getting ready to pull the trigger on one of the 441 clones out there and like the options multiple presser feet would give. I am guessing they would not fit Cowboys/Cobras/Atrisans.....any body know?

Hey Reid, I made this mistake 2 years ago. I bought out a complete shoe repair shop in Maryland and hauled it all back home to AZ. This included all of the equipment and extras you mentioned and more. Hard to re-sell this type of thing. Parts are pricey, equipment is back breaker heavy and the market is tiny. I wound up selling the 2 working Landis 12L's for a song to Panhandle Leather in Texas, delivered. I kept the finisher and Adler patcher. Still have the autonailer and heel grinder in storage, not much of a market for them. Boxes of tools came in handy for some things. All said and done I paid $2000.00 for the lot. If I had it to do over I would pass on the deal. Nearly gave myself a hernia moving this stuff and I am not weak. I had misplaced the bobbin cases for the Landis 12's and they priced out at $500. each............... Luckily I found them eventually and was able to move the machines. Hi Sharon, That Cowboy in Phoenix is not going to be enough machine for you, I was considering it myself. I am in the same predicament with a Highlead 618-sc-1 I have. I make custom moccasins with it and sometimes run into trouble. I have bought and sold machines many times and am now saving my pennies for a new Cobra 4 premium package. It will sew anything you throw at it and has a lot of versatility. Kenny

Hey all, I have an opportunity to to pick up a professionally rebuilt clean Pfaff 1245 old cast head for around $1000. dollars. I am currently running a Highlead GC0618-1sc which is a couple of years old and does the job at hand. It has been recommended to me that I purchase the Pfaff. Besides the Chevette vs. Cadillac analogy and bobbin position, what are the major differences with these machines? Cheers

For Sale is my Pearson #6 serial number 11406. She was gone over and refurbished in Pendleton, Oregon 3 years ago and lightly used since. Sews great and has a good shuttle. My leather work has moved in a different direction and I no longer need the Pearson. I am asking $3800.00 for it and that is $400. less than I gave. Pallet shipping cost me about $250.00 Oregon to Arizona. Prefer it be picked up but would be willing to meet at a mutual distance from Portal, AZ. I have the same model Highlead in my arsenal of machines. I purchased it new 3 years ago with speed reducer and servo motor. Been a good machine to me and never any problems I use it everyday making moccasins. As has been said, it is a clone of another better machine. Good luck, Kenny

Hi ELeBlanc, I get asked frequently if I would be interested in teaching this style of moccasin making. Lately, I have been giving it some thought. My shop is very small and I prefer one on one teaching. We live in a remote area of southeast Arizona and logistics are an issue here. i.e. food, lodging and transportation etc... Thanks everyone, The spider web was cut by hand and I usually put some form of Vibram on for a sole. No tutorial in the near future although I will teach a 7 day workshop in my home based shop. The inside seam is skived with a bell knife skiver and over lapped 5/8", then glued and stitched. This looks neater and also removes any excessive leather build up which you would feel. These mocs are mostly made from soft 8/9 oz buffalo and fit like a leather stocking. Very comfortable and form fitted. Kenny............

Hey Joel, Thanks for the thumbs up on my work. I use 8/9 oz. buffalo as much as I can. (thick) Bull is good too at 6/7 oz. and a lot more colors. As far as wear they stand up well as daily go to footwear. They are hand washable and require conditioning with Montana pitch blend as needed. Nearly all of my customers say they don't want to wear any other for comfort. I custom cast the foot and leg to the knee. So after a break in period they fit every time. I live in the back country of southern Arizona and have beefed up a pair for rattlesnake gathering. But thats another story. Kenny

Hi Ebdavison, Thanks for the thumbs up on my work. I make these moccasins from castings of my customers feet. I only use buffalo or bull hide (color dependent) for the main body and some deer and elk for trim work. All of this leather is very soft and supple and feels great on your feet , almost like a leather sock. I use Montana pitch blend and pure mink oil to condition and make weather resistant. As far as veg tan, it depends on the weight of leather used, not sure what to tell you about softening. Probably mink oil and a lot of breaking in. I use veg tan in my mask making ventures as I want them to be firm and hold up to wear. I should be posting another 10 pair next week or so on here, so keep an eye out for more to come . Kenny

Some of my latest stuff..........Been on the road for 3 months and no shop time. Everything is finally cured by time.

I worked for AMTRAK on the east coast out of high school for ten years, rebuilt the mainline railroad from Boston to D.C. Tried a little college and lucked into a gig with NBC Sports when i was 28. Been a freelance cameraman for about 27 years. Studio and lots of live work. Have shot live major league baseball, football, basketball and steeplechase races for most of it. My passion has been leatherwork for 30 years though. I really like making custom fitted moccasins for people with troubled feet. I bought 40 acres and a mule ( yeah really ) in 2003 out in Portal ,AZ. and that is where I call home. I never will retire. Couldn't afford it anyway. I have two great daughters and seven cool grandkids.......phew

I am removing my Pearson #6 from the market for the time being. Hopefully permanently...... Cheers all
