  1. Well, i have read about so many suppliers and the opinions about leather and where to buy,,just like certain body parts every one has one,,just kidding!!! It seems like it would be a sin not to try at least one double shoulder of Hermann Oak leather but figuring out which supplier has my head going like a bee hive...Being on a tight budget and only 1 piece at a time may limit choices but still interested in the opinions of such skilled craftsman as i am being amazed by every time i visit the site....If you got time i will be checking off and on,,right now gotta deliver a coon to some new pastures,,,so. texas must be king of coon land,,live and let live!!!
  2. they have steel springs inside,,which i have been looking for to try making my own,,,bianchi makes some first class stuff for sure..not at all sure how they are sewn in as i am very new to hoslter making but own one of the rigs you have pictured for my S & W mod 29,,best way i know to carry a revolver that big...enjoy
  3. sure will,,might have to try and make 1 or 2,,but may be pushing the envelope for my craftsmanhip,,i will come up with something for sure!!
  4. where do you get the c clips(guess that the name) like in a bianchi shoulder holster...they are inside the leather and typically squeeze the sides of holster to retain the firearm.. thought about getting in touch with bianchi ,,guess will if no one has a tip or hint..thanks
  5. I am sure i have just overlooked but haven't seen any of the springs or clips for use in shoulder holsters to retain pistol or revolver..Only thing i have seen are IWB type clips... Also i have been designing my own patterns and will probably give the shoulder holster a try also but would be nice to have a good pattern if any one knows where to get one cause i am sure that getting it right beyond my capabities(even if i do try it),,part of the fun for me is design it but i also would like to make a good functional one or two or whatever,,,thanks
  6. going to call and get catalogue with current price list(and may just goreahead and order a thing or two),,thank bothof you's for the positive input...St Louis must be interesting place as the gateway to the west,,full of places to buy needed stuff to venture into the wild west,,sometime i long for the simpler days but SOB i would miss A/C and ice for my drinks,,,Live and let live!!
  7. I am learning so much new stuff(ok attempting to learn) with suppliers and proucts being right up there,,in scanning the topics i saw where neat lac still available at ST leather,,being the curious dog i am i check out the site and find that there prices are significantly lower with what is priced elsewheres,,tools and dye..s SSooooo is this a good company and are the prices listed current,,,yes,,i will call them manyana....Can't order on line but sometimes would rather use phone anyways.. Thanks for any input..
  8. hi leatheroo.....been a gunner since 12 years old,65 now,,,and need has 0, zilch anything to do with why i own guns,,,i own because i like them just like you like tatoos which i don't care for at all...They are a source of pleasure,, a tool,,,nice to look at and fun to play with....you use them responsibly like any other tool in any phase of life... And if you hadn't read or heard any head line news these days,,you need to get out from under the rocks....Grandma takes fatal bullet to save grandchild,,,,bad guys escape from arizona prison and murder elderly couple camped in new mexico and on and on!!!! And if i am dressed with my jeans on you can bet your life i will have a knife of some kind in the pocket or a legal size in a sheath on the belt,,may need to test the steak on the grill,,cut a toothpick or cut a string so yard girl can hang somthing from the tree in yard,,and on and on,,and 50% of the time a pistol or revolver stuck in belt line behind the back. It is all about personal choice ..live and let live!!!
  9. LOL like somthing i would do daily,,stepped out the door to look for smoke signals ha ha ,,got some alchohol denatured around also,,thanks and least you caught the bobo,,, don't know who said it first but heard all my life,,,only person who doesn't make mistakes is a peson not doing anything,,rings true as 3 shots hitting same spot!!
  10. Trying to decide which dye to buy...Is the fiebings oil dye needing the reducer or clean up agent they sell or will mineral oil be accetable(i have half a gallon of it laying around)...Just curious is something different,,not trying to cut corners... Is St leather a good place to order from,,they seem to be considerable cheaper than the other places i have shopped on line??
  11. guess i did something wrong wrong trying to post ferg,,,sorry,,,,anyways i just wanted to say making a comeback is fun and work looks good,,have no idea how my information got mixed up with your post...my computer skills and leather keep me challenged!! lol
  12. I am taking a break waiting on glue to set up on part of holster and thoght maybe some would like to view a 1970 plain jane rig i bought for Dad right before i decided to give leather a go...It in great shape dad wasn't really a shooter but took great pleasure in all leather goods and enjoy just having it around....Wish i had a better camera,,anyways i going to give a try to post....
  13. conceived and born 44 oak ridge,,dad(may he R.I.P) worked at the hydrogen plant and they lived in a tent....Anyways your the second person to suggest i use something besides computer paper so i am going to give it a shot.... Can't help but smile at katsass logo everytime i see it,,must be an interesting story behind(no pun there) it....It be a while speed is not a gift for me in any phase of life.
  14. buenous dios,,does the name imply your in tennesse(sp),,my birth state!! It one of a kind for sure!!! Part of fun and frustration is trying to come up with my own design,,not that a lot of ideas don't come from other craftsmans work....I never understood how a behind the back draw with the butt pointed north was handy,,it just seems unnatural,,so mine was butt down...Guess the further you move to front of body the butt needs to be up. still drawing or scratching on paper for a design on the six shooter carried that way,,lol good thing i am on no SCHEDULE..have a good one.
  15. Really like this one,,give me something to shoot for,,believe i could strap that on empty and walk around just to show off!!!! had to ask ???? your logo sure puts a grin on my face,,,do you carve or made your own stamp:notworthy:
  16. hi buddy,,glad to see i am not the only guy who can attempt a comeback..in my case the passion of firearms and shooting just a natural drift over to carrying leather..i still got a couple of piece from way back when that were not gun related,,who knows may try some after i get my arsenal encased!! I haven't tried carving anything yet but revisited some random stamping in my holster...The Fred Sanford hand don't help a damn thing either..Sometimes some of the mistakes we make in my humble opinion can ad character and a certain quality of bueaty to the project...take care ferg,,,holler at at another combacker some time,,,,i gotta get some shut eye!!
  17. most likely give that a try,,,my work area looks like grandughter been cutting out paper dolls and scribbling and it a no brainer that the paper shift when trying to transfer it to the hide..still in awe of all the talent and craftsman ship i am seeing,,i had no idea that many people interested in leather...I am ready to shoot some clay pigeons soon,,be glad when my budget gets right,,usually shoot a lot of air too.. How do you get the patterns and ideas out of your head for sleeping at night??????Having fun is causing sleep deprivation,,LOL LOL,,man its good to be alive!!!!!!!!
  18. thanks for the encouragement,,was a fun gig for sure...working on design for single action ruger,,same style carry but think am going to try a fold over instead 2 piece and a stiffner to keep from squashing in when reholstering,,,no telling how many pieces of paper i will go though before settling on it,,ha ha ,,keeps me out of the beer joint!!!
  19. my 2cents,,with a new found respect for hand made leather work,,i don't believe size is a factor,,type of leather, labor, and level of craftsmanship would be basis(and maybe if you need a buck in a hurry,,lol)..Your pricing sounds more than fair,,they look damn good...And a few things i fooled around with,,the smaller they are have seemed to be the hardest... i like them!!
  20. That a gracious thought gregintenn..it actually looks fairly good but riddled with error,,,but consider i design from scratch,,and the knife in pix cut all,,,mostly being held in my lap(i now have a adequate cutting surface and area),,the holes on holster were eyeball spaced( found my 6 per inch roller and a few other tools didn't remember having and how to use)..I cut the belt on a curve on purpose from one formed to my body but when glued stuck wrong place and had to pull apart,,man that was spooky and messy,,to much leather left in buckle and billet area and i must have been on something when i stitced the billet lol lol...The stamps were just a pattern that appealed to my eye...That kind of carry my fav,,shoulder holster next,, i shudder to think of trying a shoulder holster....Think i try for a blackhawk 4 5/8' six shooter,,,a little higher on the belt and and not so muc lheather between the grip and back and maybe a little more angle...I may invest in a tip cutter,, i lost about an inch on both ends trying to free cut them...thanks again for the kindness,,,yard girl and me going for a mocha frappe,,these fred sanford hands need a break!!!LOL LOL
  21. Well it has been a learn ,mistake, one after another but fun and looking forward to a better one next go around...I have mexican carry(in the pants behind the back) for 40 years and is my preferred choice so decided to design and make holster and this is what i got...Going to try to post some pixs from cell phone and have no idea....how they will be!!
