Whow you all are good at motivating a person to try again. I've personally ruined 3 attempts. First by hanging out to dry and then scrape, bad idea to do that when fly's still flying -- maggot mess. Second time, two much lime turned it into a mushy mess, and third time not enough lime or didn't wait long enough but had in bucket with lime for close to two weeks and gave up. But have really been wanting to try the fourth attempt and you all have made me motivated enough to try. Thanks for all the time you take to help us out with answering questions and posting your pictures of the gear you make.

There is also pictures and explanation of how to do it in the sticky notes at the top of this forum.

Ok not far I tried to do the RIGHT things on 3 hides and they all became a big mess. I want your kind of luck

Sorry this will seem like a stupid question by some but Why are those not called romal reins?
-
I agree with bucksnort would love to have that one pinned so that have it as a quick reference when needed, & its one that would help all that need help in the future. Good job on it.

Nice Trade & cool key ring.

Great work, & have loved the color of your hides.

wish I could get the making of rawhide down, to expensive to buy outright for me. used roo for making some gear but rawhide is the old west style so thats what I want to learn. Great work on yours

I use Morgan they have always been very helpful with my order since I'm not a expert & don't know what to order or how much I would need. So been able to explain my project and they have given me suggestions on what to order and so far its been dead on.

That was so cool watching those two videos, amazing. Thanks for posting that information.

I have his book telling of this amazing husband / wife combo & their braiding work. The photos showing his work, telling his story is a great read, if you have not seen it yet check your library & pray they have it. I think anyone braiding hopes to someday be that good...

Looks like that would be a tough braid since it had a pretty large taper from the top being wide, down to the narrow bottom yet. From what I see it came out great, work to be proud of for sure.

The hand splitter, are they for sale somewhere or was it made by you? Do you think it would split rawhide? That looks like a niffty device.

Austie's sure know how to do beautiful whips. Looks great.

Sorry but I'm at your arm turning green from the new clasp. Love the bracelet.
-
Very nice looking bracelet I love the contrasting colors and that heal knot is impressive to me as well. On a personal note I personally like the hairy hand showing it off the bracelet since it doesn't yet have a ring on a finger and your very good looking. and please women also notice the clean finger nails, now that's impressive.

Great looking, usable and I will call it a work of art.

Oh my gosh and you cut with a knife by eye/hand rather then a machine? Whow very impressed with your talent before just by seeing your braiding work, but now I'm even more at hawwwwwww knowing that your also cutting everything by hand.

Very nice I would be proud to wear one of those around my neck.

Whow, you all are killing me making your own rawhide. I've tried 4 times now and still have not done it right. Since the 3rd try I used to much lime and created a holy mess, I used less lime but after 3 weeks in the lime bucket and still no hair coming off the neighbors were getting a bit worried I had a dead person in my garage, to be honest it was smelling pretty bad for a city home with close neighbors. It was pretty chilly here but not freezing, and read the post on how to make rawhide where it said might take longer then the 3 days when cold but gave up and tossed it. Not giving up totally, just gave up at the time since deer hunting season and needed to get the hide out of my freezer to make room for meat.

I diffently need to learn to ride better, softer hands and staying in the saddle. Got dumped twice by my new 5 year old that I bought, 1st time was moving cattle and he became unbroke. I was out cold for atleast 5 mins, got up trying to walk found out that I had lost motion in my right foot LOL drove 1 hour to get home where I then went to hospital to find out that I had 2 bleeds in my brain. After a short stay in the hospital, 2 months of no riding due to doctors orders, sent horse to trainer for 30 days. Got horse back and same day as I picked him up from trainer I went riding and I'll be if he didn't dump me again. Atleast I only broke a finger this time off him and was able to get back on to finish my ride. Call a friend and made the trade for a 16 year old dead broke, slow moving ride that same day can now ride in comfort in the saddle. So I would diffently be more willing to try those reins now. I diffently love how they look, just wasn't sure how they would hold up. Thanks for the advice and info I might have to build me a pair.
