First "gun" Belt... Questions
buckeroo1 replied to Sixer's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Sixer.....for me, 7/8 oz and 4/5 oz. leather is a great combination. I do something else that is not so common....my belts are made with 7/8 oz. saddle "skirting" on the outside (Chestnut is my favorite color from Wickett & Craig) and then I use a 4/5 oz. veg-tanned "tooling" leather inside for the lining.. By using the "skirting" leather I am able to get a much more detailed carving which my customers truly enjoy. As to your "wrinkles"....this is common to many craftsmen and women....simply beccause they do not realize that " the inside diameter is NOT the same as the outside diameter!" If you glue the two together....by layinng them both flat on the table or workbench and then placing them together....you will ALWAYS have wrinkles! By putting the lining onto the belt, by what I term as the "round" method, holding the two pieces in the air and putting them together and insuring the belt is curving as the lining is applied.....wahlah.....no wrinkles! If both the front and the back pieces are the same length at start....if the liner is put in properly, you will end up with a piece of lining 2 or 3 inches in length that would have certainly been "wrinkles" when worn. Remember the human body is round.....NOT flat! Good luck, hope this helps! -

Received my new servo motor for my old Adler from Bob Kovar (thank you JimBob for the reference) not only does it work fantastically well, it came quickly and in packaging that was second to none! Now what do I do with the old motor? Anybody need a boat anchor? Free....just pay shipping!

Hey JimBob...did you lose the address of that FANTASTIC company I told you about? Just in case you did, here it is again: Beiler's Manufacturing and Supply 3025 Irishtown Road Ronks, PA 17572 Phone: (717) 768-0174 Beiler's has one of the nicest catalogs in the industry, and their prices are second to none. Because they are an Amish company, they really cater to the harness industry...but the supplies are all priced well because they do not use computers, nor do they use fancy boxes (but they pack very well), I purchase ALL my dyes, hand tools and "linen" thread from them...not to mention ALL my hardware too! Finally, in today's world of high shipping cost....they charge "ACTUAL" shipping fees, unlike some companies that charge a percentage (that is always in their favor too). Write or call for their catalog...its FREE! No...I am not getting paid for this endorsement, I am just a very happy customer and wish that the other companies in this industry would follow their wonderful lead. I am a 100% totally satisfied customer!! Oh yeah, they sell some of the highest quality leather on the market....very very nice leather, and it comes as if I picked it off the stack myself!

Ed Chapman Saddles?
buckeroo1 replied to NewLeather's topic in Saddle Identification, Restoration & Repair
Most likely you already know: Ed Chapman worked for Edelbrock's in Fort Worth, Texas (1930-1946). Edelbrock was sold to Atkns & Boothman (early 40's)...then it became Atkins and Bullinger. About 1944, Don "Windy" Ryon was the sole owner. This leads me to believe that ol' Ed may have worked for Windy Ryon also....you might check this out. -
My favorite supplier for my hardware is BEILER'S MANUFACTURING AND SUPPLY. Because this is an Amish company....they are experts in leather harness and related items. Also...because they are Amish, they do not use computers or modern devices to raise their prices. Their hardware is awesome....and very-y-y-y reasonably priced when compared to other companies. I believe you must have a wholesale license to buy from them....but again, this is the company! You can order their catalog by phone: 1-717-768-0174 or by mail: 3025 Irishtown Road, Ronks, PA 17572. Their catalog is very impressive to say the least and its free.

What 10 Blueguns Would You Purchase!
buckeroo1 replied to buckeroo1's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes

I have been involved in Single Action Shooting for numerous years....think I have made just about every type of western rig possible! Now....I am moving to the modern era (finally) and would like to know what the consensus is for the most popular automatic weapons being used today. Of course, the Colt 1911 is at the top of the list....and I have it already. If you were to going to order ten (10) Blueguns....which ones would they be?

Thanks for the replies.....guess I am more ignorant that my wife says I am and I appreciate all the input! The fact of the matter is, I have quite a few different machines and already have a 31-15 myself but was attempting to "share" some information I believe would possibly help somebody on this site who might be looking for a machine in good shape. Maybe I fell off the turnip truck....but to me $450 would be a fair and reasonable price. Yes....I also agree that you might find one much cheaper....but when will that day come? Heck, I might even win the lottery....but I am not planning on it. Personally, my 31-15 was a gift by a man that "just wanted it out of his garage!".....and I wouldn't sell it for $450. My work horse is an old Adler 105, and my other machines include a Tippmann "Boss", a nice Singer 241-12, an old Elna "Grasshopper", a Singer 99K and two or three other old Singer's I am presently bringing back to life as time permits. Anyway....thanks again for the replies...but I am still going to bet that somebody will purchase it and be glad they did.

I don't know if anyone is interested....but on the "Houston" CRAIGSLIST....there is a very good looking 31-15 Singer for sale! Just this week, I was "given" a very nice 31-15 and don't even know what possessed me to look on Craigslist but I did! This is how the machine is listed: "SINGER COMMERCIAL SEWING MACHINE - $650.00" and is listed under appliances. I guess the devil made me do it....so I called the man, and he must be very eager to sell, as I immediately offered him $450.00....and he asked me when I wanted to pick it up! I haven't made an appointment with him yet....told him I would call back monday (9/12/11). I really don't want another 31-15....but I may buy it for re-sell if nobody here wants to purchase it. Anyway.....if you are anywhere near Houston, this may be what you are looking for as good 31-15's are getting harder and harder to find. I have attached the photo he had on his ad.

I recently wanted to purchase a 12"x12"x1" natural rubber pad (40 durometer) that is often mentioned in various forum conversations. I went to McMaster-Carr and they advised me that I needed item #8633K63 at the cost of $72.73 each. I then went to MSC Industrial Supply Company and they advised me that I needed item 21934573 at a cost of $39.45 each. Well, as I am a miser at heart, I immediately placed my order with MSC. The pad arrived, I have put it to work.....and it does a great job. I would highly recommend MSC Industrial Supply Co. if you are interested in the same item.

I have just listed a very nice "cast iron" Tippmann "BOSS" sewing machine on eBay. This machine does not belong to me, but is the property of an incarcerated inmate that my wife and I visit with a ministry. I have owned an aluminum Tippmann "BOSS" for numerous years and had no idea there was an older, heavier, verison. After adjusting this machine....it is my opinion that it would be a wonderful machine with many many years of great service. Please see the eBay listing for further details.
