  1. Like I told you in my email Chris, you gotta do what's best for you (I think I put that in there). Either way, I'm glad to hear that there might be someone to pick up the market share and keep people rolling.
  2. You think I should add some matting to it? I think the burnishing color does most of the job the matter would, but I just can't decide. I'm not adding any color so I don't know if it's going to feel like something's missing or not.
  3. yeah, i still gotta work some more on those tight little twirls. They're a little choppy. I think my problem is in getting the barrel to swivel just right while keeping just the tip of the blade in. I might look at an angled blade if I keep on doing stuff like that (which I probably will).
  4. Me too. I think they came out mostly great. There's a "handmade" portion though that will drive me nuts forever unless I can figure out how to fix it
  5. Very nice. I was planning on using a top mounted D ring when I do one for my dog too. That will make it much easier on ALL of us. I'm also curious about the lining too....
  6. Yeah. I was just about to suggest the same thing until I saw he beat me to it. You can pick up really cheap ones - or really expensive ones. I'm sure a cheap one would do you OK for now until you get some cash flow happening.

Close up of the cut work. I think it's classy enough to pack around campus and advertise my work.

Sorry, can't let her get away without a skull somewhere on it

Finished all the beveling on this side. Now I need to get started on the reverse.

  11. The part that I noticed was a little bit of black that bled up into the natural brow area. Honestly, only someone as anal retentive as me would ever notice it I'm sure My mom always taught me when i was a kid that you HAVE to put some "mistakes" in your art. One, for the reason you said (it is handmade after all and not done on a CNC or something) and two, to identify it as yours. I remember some of her bead work that had a single red bead in the middle of a sea of orange. Stuff like that is great for the craftsman. Like I said, seeing that stuff in your work just helps me remember that some of that is OK. Now, let's see if I can actually get some work done today......
  12. There were a couple little bleed over spots that would drive me nuts normally, but it doesn't really show through when you step back and look at it as a whole. That's the kind of OCD stuff I was talking about. That's always my biggest problem - sometimes striving so hard for perfection that it sets me back. I think that's a good idea to start the other one now, as long as you're satisfied with the overall scheme now. Right now it probably seems like a lot of overload just focusing on the one panel. Working two at the same time could be like a mental break and help you feel like you're not just doing one thing all day. Plus, that will give you time to soak up what you've done on one and make a good determination of where you're going with it. You know, let it stew for a bit and not over think it while it's fresh.
  13. Nice closeup. Helps me see that I might not need to be so OCD on the details.
  14. It's starting to come together. Light at the end of this half of the tunnel???
  15. Man I love your work. Keep it up (kind of a stupid statement)

Final cuts. Next up is final beveling, modeling the rigid edges then dying (light coloring focused more on highlighting the tooling).

  17. Think I'm going to try finishing up the flesh border today so I can start on some kindle tattoo designs.

  18. Sounds like some cool inspiration for some steam punk stuff. One problem though - NO PICTURES!!! (as if I've never done that before)
  19. My dye gets here in a week, so I'm taking my time to make sure I don't have a chance to tweak it several hundred times before dying.
  20. Good idea after those words of wisdom. .....and it's not a knucklehead, it's a SHOVELHEAD!!!
  21. Chancey's a MACHINE!! No sleep, no food. Just fill him up with the best high octane around and watch the work fly.

Still need to go back and hit that stuff with the modeling spoon. I hate square edges.

  23. Off to work on some morbid wall art. Hopefully I can finish up the tooling this weekend and then wait for dyes to get here.

  24. Cool, I hadn't gotten that far into that site yet. I'm going to have to go check it out some more and find some projects to make with my daughter.
