  1. worked hard to erase the prints of the presser foot but after wetting, rubbing smoothly...i did it i put a welt between the fold - glued it and then stitched everything with the sewing machine...i hope that won't tear easily i always find wrong things on my jobs but this one (for a 1st one) turned out rather good and bottom line : the harder in leatherworking? => making patterns that works the rest : part luck, part imagination => you can work around almost all troubles this is the way i see things but i really had fun doing that one
  2. I totally agree with you! If another "timberman" comes and ask for an axe sheath and if i can "sweat talk" him into full carve it..i will do it to be honest : that was the goal always my goal : 1st : clean and functional when this is ok => i go for the nice looking and the fancy stuff anyone wants on with swarovski strass on it Ahahaha

  4. This is not my type of "purse" : my girly side talking , i prefer the look of the last ones you showed BUT as usual : really really neat work!
  5. WANT ONE LIKE THAT! a flashy green + a deep black without speaking of the neat sewing work! Amazing!!
  6. Hi guys! Here my 1st try at Axe sheath This is far from a saddle but the "challenge" appealed to me and bottom line : i loved it ! A guy asked me to build for him a sheath for his competition axe (not a fancy one but something cool and that would work easy) i said : ok might be possible ...and here is what came out of it! 1 trouble was the shape of the axe : curved on both side => boggled my mind a bit i wanted something easy to manipulate and sturdy.... decoration really really simple : his initiales made out of Hermann and Oak 12/130z - oiled with olive oil - finished with some skidmore's leather cream now that gave me some ideas : when i see it, i feel like it would not have hurt to work a bit more on the deco but was not for me so i did what was asked .....and i am not close to own an axe since i am enough dangerous with a baseball bat! :D
  7. a Long road laying ahead of me I am a "rookie" in leatherworking so i guess i only can improve with time (like wine ) My work is far from being perfect but i try to do my best each time and to learn as much as i can from anybody around willing to share I try to understand the whys, the pro and cons of doing sthg this way or another way...and find what suit me (to be honest : sometimes easy things i can't do while i can perform some tough stuff ...go figures 1 step by 1 step ...Rome has not been built overnight as they say ...so are my skills
  8. :D i will take your word ...My "Lord of the purses" :D Maybe another carreer laying in front of me héhéhé who knows already got some crazy ideas
  9. It always "flatten" me on the ground when i read you guys across the pond (aka atlantic ocean) talking about prices and i often forget that if i would like to do the same , sell it and get a wee bit of cash to pay my bills at the end of the month i would have to charge almost 3 times the price ....'cause of shipping fee, custom fee, taxes and so on For example, last May i was in Sheridan WY talking with some US saddle makers about the price of the material in order to build a saddle (without counting the working price) turned out the cost in the USA is roughly 800 $ => same material for me (once i get it in France) is roughly 1500 $ Looking at it this way...it's just plain crazy...... See guys those braided romals with kangaroo? i wanted to get a shot at trying it? bought some books on braiding? i just dropped the idea : see the price of kangaroo? + the time spent to braid a romal? i ve seen many romals sold around 600 $ in the USA...but i know that no one in Europe is ready to pay that much for a romal...just dropped the idea :/ too bad Geez , you just would make HUGE money selling those in Europe! :D Add to that : your job is AWSOME.....how did I call you? King of Purses?? Right! AhAh
  10. Just ... WHOAAAAAAAAA Geez , 280$?? was a "family price" special for your cousin? or you would sale the same to a perfect stranger the same price??? 'cause from where i sit , it looks like it's a lot of work, a lot of quality stuff involved! Congrats!! gonna call you the King of purses!! :D
  11. you bet that yiu can start selling!! really neat work!! :D

  18. Hello everybody! I am about to buy one of Dennis lane set of cards for saddle tree measurements. I have finally found how to contact him somewhere on the forum and been discussing by email with him. I was wondering if it was possible to use those cards on mules. Dennis told me that it might be possible to do so by altering a bit some of the cards. He also advised me to ask here for some feedback from those who used those cards on mules. So ? benefits? drawbacks? some ideas? Thans a lot Dennis! and thanks to those who might share their point of view with me :D
  19. Nice thanks Chief! lighten my "bulb" about guitar straps
  20. stupid question : someone cares to tell me the length and width of a guitar strap? i guess they exist in several length and width due to the size of the guy and likes of the guy? and if there are several kind of way to attach the strap to the guitar i think i have a feeling to try to make a guitar strap
  21. LMAO guys! if i was a guy and looking at a nice girl like that with that BIG gun on .....i would stay clear! By the way = really nice job with the holster!
