really cool and "out the box" how did you "fixed" the finish so that the paint does not rub off too much with time?
-
"Amen" :D same tune here I am proud of being taught how to build saddles the same way you see it and i intend of keeping that way even if it a real pain in the butt to explain customers why you use the best and why it does cost so much....but for sure those saddles will outlive me

the whole "western saddle and its purpose " in a nutshell! :D I wish that people in france could get that stamped in their skull my job would be easier thanks for that explanation
-
really nice tooling! but something "sad" = we can see the square shape of the edges of the tool used to stamp the letters.... 1 thing i do to fix it because it happens to me too) => use a spoon to "erase" the marks when leather is still damp before dying and finishing so that the result is neat

Hi Mike! This braiding comes from the "Encyclopedia of Rawhide and Leather Braiding" from Bruce Grant's(i can't remember who told me to buy it...but i thanks that person! neat advice!) This book is a "must have" along with the Lacemaker :D It's a big book (528 pages) , not fun at all (black and white) but FULL of a lot of different braiding styles with pictures to illustrate and written explanations (in english) If i can go through that ...i guess that everybody can (even my hubby who does not speak english can do something with the pictures only :D ) You can find that book on Amazon (not brand new) for a few bucks -

Hi Guys, During vacations....i had a mind for "scientific tests" and i tried several other belts.... body : veg tanned leather dyed black or brown and same lacing on every of them but not always the same king of leather (and mark my word : lacemaker is fabulous :D ) but funny thing : the braiding does not look the same on each of them !!! several pics to come (not all finished yet So far, my favorite is still the very 1st one :D ....maybe i really going to keep it for myself this one , the braiding is done with pigskin Keep tuned buddies! and by the way : I wish you all a terrific year 2013! -

1St Braided Belt
Aurelie replied to Aurelie's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I grant you : this lace maker costs literally an eye ...even more with shipping fees, customs.... BUT this worthes TOTALLY the cost! i bought it before starting messing around with braiding => it was useful but NOW i started braiding, i find it to be a "have to" => easier, quicker cheaper and you can make your own lace ! -

1St Braided Belt
Aurelie replied to Aurelie's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
thanks guys! For the little story : i had the idea of this belt after making a headstall + breast collar combo AND after Beaverslayer sweat talked me into trying making handbags (THAT will be the next step ) FYI : the combo is sold breast collar handstitched (not with sewing machine because i was not sure it would work nice) -

Hi Mr Beaverslayer! I do not really know what kind of hide it is...i guess it's from a cow hide this is a fantasy leather hide - not really printed or embossed...i am not sure but it does look like some pebbles are stuck on it -
Hi guys! a special dedicace to beaverslayer => 1 toe on the shark pool i guess i am starting to "stick my fingers in evey pie around"... this is a 1st try on "braided" (or rather "part braided" belt) 2 parts of veg tanned leather - dyed in brown cut from a hide rather thin turquoise lace cut with Lacemaker from a tuquoise hide braided (don't ask me the name of it...was just not a too difficult one) then stitched oiled with olive oil + my fav one : skidmore's leather cream
