  4. Hey guys - I'm looking to buy a 1.5 or 1.75 inch wide unfinished (no dye, probably veg tan), horsehide belt strip. I don't want the snaps or slit for the buckle, just a strip. Many places sell the horse butts but I don't have a strap cutter and would prefer to just buy a belt strip. I think Zack White and Maverick just sells the horse butts. Does anyone know where I can buy a strip that I can make into a belt? It ideally be like this one from Gustin, but with no holes or rivets - I believe this is Horween leather, but I don't know where to buy the actual belt strip. https://www.weargustin.com/store/4505 Thanks!
  5. thanks! I'm gonna leave it natural veg tan and just let the natural patina take its course.
  6. thanks! Coos Bay is nice! I've spent a lot time in Depoe Bay, Lincoln City, and Newport.
  7. Hey guys - Here's a bifold wallet I just finished for myself. I decided on a crab design because I'm from Oregon and we love our dungeness there and am also a Cancer in the zodiac thingy. Initials are on the front, crab design on back. Traced it from a real picture of a dungeness I found on the internet. Stitching is tandy brown polyester. Edges beveled and then burnished with gum tragacanth. Made it from a 4-5oz single shoulder from Tandy but had to skive it down a bunch so it wasn't too thick. More pics at www.instagram.com/leathercrabwallet Please let me know what you think. Thanks! Ted
  8. Thanks! It was the leather that came with the Tandy kit, I think it was like 6-7 ounces. Maybe 5-6. Here are some more pics/
  9. Made this for a gift. Used Range Tan eco-flo die and found a Navajo design off the internet and tooled it in. Please let me know what you think. I'm fairly pleased with it. Ted

  12. Great, thank you!
  13. Does anyone know where to get patterns for simple bifold leather wallets like this? I'm sort of a beginner but have made a bunch of the Tandy kits. I want to make my own simple wallet out of horsehide. Thanks! http://www.ebay.com/itm/Handcrafted-Genuine-Leather-Wallet-/222028077578?hash=item33b1e79a0a:g:lIQAAOSwuAVWxj4D
  14. Bill and Knut - thanks so much for the help. I'm not that familiar with sheath knives so I guess I'll pick up a head knife and get to practicing. Thanks again, Ted
  15. I'm going to make a leather pick guard for my fender stratocaster. I have a nice piece of 1/8 inch thick leather that will be great for it but I don't think the shears I have will do a good job cutting it once I've traced the pick guard shape on the leather. I think the bulkiness of my shears and the fact that it's tough to cut completely straight with them will make it difficult to get this right. Is there a tool and method that people recommend? For reference, a plastic stratocaster pick guard is in the attached picture. I'll have to make some curvy but precise cuts, and cut the holes for the pickups. Thanks in advance, Ted
