  1. Hey, nothing wrong with kits! And they're definitely a great way to learn! That turned out really good for your first tooling! Looks awesome!
  2. Nifty! hmmm looks like a mirrored word.... How big do you make those?
  3. OOoooh, Very cool! Can't wait to see it finished!
  4. How cool! I love working with sharkskin but have never seen something like these before (then again, I've never made a holster!) I love the work! They look great! And thanks for the tip!
  5. Very nice holster! How did you do the lion and bear? Are they lasered (sp) branded? Looks cool! Your son should be proud!
  6. Absolutely Awesome! Tell them they did great! And like beezachoppa, my 3 1/2 yr old likes to case (see: drench) pound with the tools and paint the leather! Soon.....so soon....LOL!
  7. Thank you all! I had made him in hopes of making some extra bucks at GenCon. So I was working against a deadline. I made 3 dragons that are finished and one that never made it past the tooling stage. Didn't sell a one...ugh. Oh well... At least he looks good on my wall! LOL!
  8. We do hardened armour. We have a totally different method than most, and definitely NOT period...LOL! First it depends on what type you're going for...SCA, Dag, Renfaire, etc. They do have different guidelines for thickness and period/fantasy. We wetform all of our pieces. We completely soak the leather in hot tap water (not boiled etc.) then shape it to what we want. We then dip the entire piece in acrylic floor wax. This sounds funny but really works! It hardens the leather, gives it a gloss and makes it completely water proof! Plus, it won't unshape or soften. It will mould somewhat to your body but won't lose it's shape. The only reason to use an oven with this method is if you are in a hurry, to give the acrylic a 'boost' in drying. But alot of the time we just let the pieces sit and drip dry It doesn't take but 24 hours or so and the finished piece is awesome! As far as leather weight, we no longer use saddle skirting because of the variance in thickness. We use the solebends as mentioned above. For the price they are a great deal and are beautiful for leather armour, hardened or not!
  9. Absolutely amazing! You inspire me to start on the tree I've got sitting out in the shop..... I too want to build an old time saddle and have yet to do more than minor repairs on existing saddles... You did a wonderful job! How do you get the finish to be so even?
  10. OOoooh, I'm gonna try it! I'll probably start it tomorrow.... Does it have to be done by a certain time?
  11. Ya know, I was considering taking part in that competition, but after seeing this, I realize I wouldn't have a snowball's chance in.....well....you get the idea! Awesome work, I would never have thought to do it that way. It look Beautiful!
  12. Woo! Very nice! I've not seen one like that before! I have a regular sewing machine and a big industrial machine that I avoid like the plague! I want a Tippman boss *sigh* Almost everything I make is handstitched unless it's light enough for the Janome... Oh, and I agree about weekends and I'm not sure what a "kitchen table" is...LOL!
  13. Hey all, don't think I ever got this up here when I finished it... He is a handdrawn (directly onto the leather) blue tail dragon. He is modeled after the local skinks... I carved him on 14+oz leather (scrap from some armor project or other) I admit I cheaped out on the background...my thumb had temporary ( a few months worth of temporary) nerve damage after I finished this one... Then he was painted in acrylics, resisted and antiqued. Critiques welcome!! I need to know what I should focus on improving! I feel this is the best "carved picture" I've done! ...but know that I need to 'do more'... If I already posted him I apologize, it's been a loooooooooong year!!
  14. Hey! I just got of the phone with Raphael Sewing and the guy was really nice. He wants me to rethread and get new needles for it. He said that should clear up what we think is a timing issue. If not, then get it timed... But yeah, he said "ugh" when I told him how much I paid. So I guess I should say I'm willing to take $900 for it or trade for an older Tippman Boss
  15. Try contacting Weaver Leather, but it may be a California thing....bummer.
  16. Yeah! That's it! Do you know any more about it Art? I'd love to get more info on it! This is the first time anyone's ever id'd it for us LOL!
  17. Hey all! I can offer CnC machine Plasma cutting for metal parts. Brass, Copper, Mild steel, Stainless steel. We've cut everything from race car parts to yardsigns. One of the biggest things we work with is armour. We can cut and shape lamellar plates and various other pieces. If it can be turned into clean vector art, we can cut it! We also offer powdercoating and paint stencils and original artwork for tooling or cutting!! Here is a small sample of our work, showing how the cnc cut parts are incorporated with leather working:
