  1. Very very very nice work love the attention to detail inside and the tooling makes me want to make one now
  2. This is some simple wooden beads i made from small tree branches and put on some leather lace for a simple bracelet. Still have to make some type of clasp to hold it together but for now this is what i have done so far. Learning how to do it was fun and will make it easier to make more in the future and help me create many different designs and so on. Hope you fellow leather workers like it .
  3. This is the look of the wooden beads i made from tree limbs that are in picture. All so what the beads look like after cut from tree limbs into wood pellets before drilled out in filed and sanded. This was a fun project have some more work to do on them but this is the general idea of what it will look like.
  4. Thanks for the suggestions and yeah being that the length of the lace vary from 12 inches to smaller pieces you can only do so much . I am going to make some primitive bracelets with some wooden beads. I did some research and found out i can make very simple wooden beads from tree limbs . Also you can use fruit tree branches as a fragrant wooden bead that when rubbed will give a fragrance of the fruit. i have some pear and peach trees in the yard i will use those for the fragrance beads and some cedar and pine trees for the others or what ever else i find that has a good color in the wood . Only bad thing from my research is that the wood has to be seasoned or dried or the wood will crack if you make the bead before allowing it to dry. So this week i will be gathering wood and trying different things will add some pictures of the progress once i do.
  5. I just bought a big bag of leather lace from my local hardware store. It was only $5.00 so i got it because it would be gone soon there was only two bags. only thing is what to do with leather lace . all the pieces witch is a lot are about 12 inches in length. I need some very simple ideas for a project for the lace. i would like to keep the budget under $ 10 bucks for any extra materials to make something . so please give me some ideas anything would be helpful.

  9. Here are some of my first leather mag pouches for a 1911 handgun. Took me awhile to make them was a fun learning experience. They fit all standard 1911 7 or 8 round magazines like for example the colt, Springfield , kimber, Thompson , etc. The belt loop holes will fit any size belt and can be worn on either side left or right. These where wet molded to the mag to get a good fit and tension to hold the mag in place. I also left a lip of leather above mag to help with comfort when twisting and sitting. Leather was dyed charcoal black and sealed with leather sheen to give it a gloss finish and waterproof the leather against sweat. Anyone interested in this product can go to this link http://gun-leather.ecrater.com/p/15332119/1911-mag-holder
  10. WOW very nice work on the knife sheath and i like the fact that you water proofed it because of the possibility of sweat being worn around the neck . Also the lanyard with the skull is a nice touch and good to know there are quality craftsman like you making these knife sheaths.
  11. I just finished dying the leather black still need a lot of work before finished . I'm gonna use some fiebings leather sheen as a top coat any thoughts on how to apply it to get a good finish too it i have heard you need to lay it on thick. I will update the progress with some more photo's
  12. Welcome to the site im a nooby too i just got into leather to make leather gun holsters and stuff and just finished my first project some mag holders for a 1911 handgun. Thought i share it with you to let you know even us new guys to leather can make some dam good stuff on the first try.
  13. This is a simple leather sheath for my round knife. I wanted to do somthing fun and make it look like it was a very old leather sheath by antiqing it. I chose one piece of leather for the front that had lines and grain marks runing through it to get my overall look and just a plane smooth piece for the back . The leather used for this project where scrap remnants that i bought from the leather-guy online . I started with two different types of shoe polish to rub into leather so the leathers true color would still remain some what. First coat of shoe polish was a CAVALIER Cordovan/Burgundy 232 to rub on edges and on all the leather. Then i used red wings medium brown 95172 over the other shoe creme. with both shoe polishes i used about 6 coats per each to give a layer effect on the leather . I then used a grill lighter butane torch to burn the edges on front to give it a design effect of waves or pattern . I then soaked the whole piece in water and got out a butane torch the kind that screw on a large bottle for plumbers to solder joints and burn and blistered the back side of the leather just for a look. Then i sanded the edges of the leather to get the two different colors of polish to show through and burned the edge slightly also for an old worn look, I also sanded the back where i blistered the leather to give an even more worn look and allowing the blistering of the leather to show through more. I finished the whole thing with a mink oil leather creme and some neat's foot oil. So there it is folks tell me what you think about my work and craftsmanship because this leather stuff is all new to me and this is my second project with leather .
  14. I think starting a guild would be a great idea we could call it Georgia Leather Guild . If you work with leather and live in GA come join the (GLG) .
  15. check out Tandy Leather Company they have all sorts of fastners and clips for holster making .
  16. I just wanted to add my design of a pancake style mag holder with belt loops punched out on leather . To give a better idea of what the stitch lines look like and how far apart they are to get a good wet mold without affecting the stitch line and what length is needed to be able to have enough room for the mag to fit in the leather. These two mag holders in picture are my first attempts after making templates from wood to make four of them . this is the ruff in before final touch ups of edges and cleaning before dying .
  17. OK i think i figured it out. here are the pictures that did not upload of my mag holders for a 1911 handgun.
  18. Hello i am from Gray GA , and thats not to far from warner robins its a drive though lol fairly new to leather and this site. This is my latest project some 1911 mag holders ruffed in before finishing touches and leather dye.
  19. I would be interested in this project and also im new to leather working but have enough experience to do this but not sure about the snake skin as to how it will react to the leather cement. here is my email concealedcarryproducts@gmail.com
  20. I'm new to leather making also i have just finished the ruff in of my mag holders before i dye them . I used hobby knives with replaceable blades to do all my cutting. This method do able but takes a long time and i rather look for other methods like using a round knife. I just ordered a stohlman round knife. yes i am aware of the quality of the blade but its in my budget and im gonna give it a try. I will take it to my buddy who is a blacksmith making knives if it gives me any trouble with the blade he will will make it work right.
