  1. I just finished a custom a holster for someone. It's for a Colt 1911. How do you guys price holsters? Where I am in western CO there is no one else doing Sheridan style holsters. I look on eBay and ETSY and yes they have holsters and yes technically they have flowers on them it's just not the sheridan style. By sheridan style I am referring to raised floral pedals and vine work seen typically in the west like on saddles like Don King use to make. I am not seeing anyone doing that stuff online and I am trying to figure out how to set up my pricing since each sheridan holster takes me a couple days to make. I have no idea why my iPad won't autorotate the first image.
  2. OK cool Thanks good thing I have a home depot less then a minute away from the house...lol
  3. Is mineral spirits the same thing or something totally different? I got some mineral spirits today for cleaning brushes after using contact cement. If not I can pick some up tomorrow Thanks!
  4. Big River - what's wrong with Botach? That's where I have been getting mine from and I have 5 of the rings BG's. What is the pricing like through Rings directly? I am a one man shop work from home. So I am just starting out with this stuff and don't have a ton to spend on blue guns. I typically get 1-2 a month depending on my work load and finances.
  5. Camano Ridge - what is the best way to remove the blue top coat from the blue guns?
  6. Those of you who use blue guns I thought I was being so smart today......lol I got my pencils for my site channels and thought hey I can use Gorilla tape that stuff is like super glue. So I got some of the clear marine gorilla tape because it's waterproof and thinner. Epic fail... works great until it meets the slightest friction then it doesn't hold and takes the top layer of blue off. Is there another way I should handle this on a more permanent manner? Really don't want to have to retape each molding.
  7. Thanks for the input and suggestions guys. I am still fairly new to this and learning as I go. Going to try to flip it over and see how it goes.
  8. I have been asked to do some left side holsters. To date all of my holsters have been right side or for right handed shooters. Some of my patterns it's gonna be easy just a matter of flipping the pattern over. Others not so much. One of the ones up in the air in the avenger style. With those patterns can you just flip those for lefties? Trying to figure out the best way to handle avenger and pancake paddle holsters for lefties. Thanks
  9. Mike, Yes thank you for your input! I am wanting something that fits fairly tight. Some folks out here in Colorado want a snap closure on their holsters while others just want a tight fit that keeps it in until you take it out. I have been wondering how to prevent the leather from giving over time I think I read something in the forum at one time about it but remember now what the tip was....lol One of the issue I keep having is once I mold around the trigger guard and indent some in the trigger area I always end up pulling which ever I did first out! frustrating....lol Mike do you not do the tight molded holsters like avengers?
  10. When you let the water on top evaporate do you mean you let it come back to where it is starting to show it's dry color or just where the surface is dry?
  11. So if you do a quick dunk like will it soak in enough to mold and come back like mentioned below? How long do you generally have to do get it molded? Most of my holsters are 7-9 depending on style.
  12. Jason & Camano, How long do you guys soak your holsters? Once I finish dying I let it sit over night. Then the next day I submerge it for 1-2 minutes at the most and start forming it the best I can. Our home office is generally the hottest room in the house so once I get done I put the holster with the blue gun still inside on top of the bookshelf and let it finish drying for 24-36 hrs before I touch it. I don't do the oven trick because our oven doesn't do that low....lol
  13. What is the best tool for forming holsters? I have tried sharpie markers, bone folders ( from tandy) and even horn creasers also from Tandy and haven't been really happy with any of them they all see to mark the leather and I don't seem to get a real good molding from them anyway. Thanks
  14. Buzzardbait so his does cut into the leather and not just burnish? I saw those on his site but was apprehensive because I didn't want another burish blade set.
  15. I was watching a video and saw a beader blade that actually cut into the leather and not just burnish it. The one I have now the "blades"are rounded so you cut your main lines then run your beader blade one side in your cut line. Your second line is more of a burnished line that looks cut. I would like to at some point in the near future get a 1/8" beader blade that actually cuts the leather on both lines for the borders. Does anyone know if anyone makes one like this? Trying to figure out who made the one I saw in the video.
  16. I know this is an old post but do you by any chance have the Drawing Sheridan Style Patterns by Chan the DVD version?
  17. I did one for P226 (I think ) just trying to figure out which patterns in that pack would work best for glock 22 and the 1911. Every time I think I have it come forming time I am off usually over by a 1/4-1/2". That's why I was just curious if anyone was familiar with this pattern pack. Tired a messing stuff up...lol
  18. I was always under the impression that if you rewet leather like for forming your beveling would swell out. Is this not correct? I do Sheridan tooled holsters so to keep from having to redo any tooling I put one one coat of sealer on but I guess this is incorrect the ?
  19. Anyone have issues with the eco flow sheen peeling when you try to form it? Seems like the last 3 holsters I have made no matter how little I put on when I wet the holster to form it, it starts feeling away. Any suggestions or am I doing something wrong?
  20. I got a pattern pack a while back from leathercraft library the 4418 Holster Kit. I was wondering if any of you guys were familiar with this pattern pack? I recently purchased 2 blue guns a glock 22 and a SW M&P 40 and this pattern pack has the M&P listed on a couple patterns. As luck would have it The M&P 40 is on back order for 4 weeks so they are only sent the Glock 22 which will get here tomorrow. From what I can tell the Glock is not listed on any of these patterns. Does anyone know which pattern the Glock will fit to? Each holster pattern is set to it's own alphabet letter if that helps. I am new to holsters and am still trying to learn all this stuff.
  21. JWalker I found him. His website is http://www.slickbaldcustoms.com he sells blue guns and patterns and all kinds of stuff great site thanks for the tip!
  22. Michael thanks for the info that's really great info to know. For the time being I am hand sewing my holsters. What type of thread do you usually use? At the present I have been using either black or brown waxed waxed thread and burning the ends after I tie it off.
  23. Thanks for the ideas. I am finding out that the metal airsoft guns are exact copies of the real guns they are made after and are cheaper then blue guns etc. mlapaglia I am out in Grand Junction so I am curious what glock models do you sell the most out there?
  24. I have recently started doing pistol holsters mainly sheridan tooled style. I live out in Colorado. At the moment I have a 1911 dummy that I use for forming purposes. I need some suggestions on what some of you guys think the most popular hand guns are here in the southwest are. I would like to pick up 1 or two more dummy guns for molding and could really use the input as to what models to look into. I support gun rights but my wife and I are not gun owners currently because our oldest who is 16 is bipolar and we feel that a bipolar teen and guns in the house aren't the best of combinations but once she leaves for college that may change. What do you guys suggest that are gun owners?
