  1. Unloading my leather hobby, time for a new home. This has everything you need to get started, even comes with a hide from thoroughbred leather hide and a box of horween leather small cuts to get started. Here are a few things of note: - die cuts for filed note cover and wallet - plastic templates for field note journal and a wallet - edgers, gouger, drum sander, main thread, belt hardware, buckles, awls, chisels, bevels, pull dot buttons, hole punches, books etc. $350 local pickup (Raleigh/Durham NC) or will ship (buyer paid).
  2. Thanks for the all the tips, this is super helpful, will keep you posted as I work through it.
  3. I would like to make a few of these for some friends and am having trouble finding two thing: - The book inserts: a recommendation to a good site which sells book inserts would be super helpful - Glue recommendation: I am looking for a glue that will stand the test of time and am interested in recommendation for a permanent glue for a project like this. Thanks for your help.
  4. Herman and Oak have been sold. Still have the the heavy brown CXL and black CXL. Will see those together for $150 to get them out of the shop. Local pick or ship on buyers dime.
  5. Sorry @nrk wasn't having a great day at the time and took it the wrong way.
  6. @nrk Why thank you. Good luck to you too in whatever you happen to be doing.
  7. I have the following I am looking to sell: - About 75 sqft of Herman and Oak Veg tanned (ranging from 2/3oz to 3/4oz) - $300 for all of the H/O - 35 sqft of 10/12 oz Horween CXL - $150 for all of CXL - 22 sqft of black cxl 2/3 oz (soft leather). - $100 for black cxl hide Would prefer local pickup but will ship on your dime. 8. Thanks everyone for the help. Really helpful and thoughtful info.
  9. My drill press motor burned up today which sent me to the forum looking at what I should do next. I have read through a lot of the topics on people who are using bench grinders/buffers and a burnisher as well as folks using drill presses. Would love to get insight on if it's time to go the bench route over the drill press or just buy a new drill press. I have never worked with bench grinder style, but would be interested to hear the benefit over the drill press (seems to be more commonly used). I am not married to either at this point. Thanks for the help.
  10. @Dwight thanks for the info. Sorry I went dark, kiddo decided to come a month early so been off doing baby things I will let you know how this turns out.
  11. @kiwican I am using chrome tan leather for this project. Thanks for the advice. @tinkerton I will also give that method a try. Should have some time in the shop tonight to give it a go.
  12. I will be doing an internal sewn seam. I have been watching some videos on youtube and feel pretty good about the seam allowance etc. Since I am hand sewing, I am trying to figure the stitching holes and how to make those happen evenly across the seem. Doesn't feel like Glue is going to be a great option.
  13. I am going to be hand stitching using 4/5oz leather.
  14. I am setting out to make a military style duffle bag and have a good grip on everything but sewing in the circular bottom. Any direction in getting started there would be much appreciated. I have searched the forum and do not see much on this topic, so hopefully we can get a good conversation going about it.
  15. Tom, thank for the post. I sewed the zipper first with the method you mentioned turning it right-side out etc. What I am running into with the google videos is people seem to ignore the details around the ends of the zipper to get them a finished look or I am just missing the mark. I do have a basic sewing machine I can give it a go on. Would still like to be able to turn it out by hand though.
  16. My wife asked me to make her a zipper clutch pouch which seems pretty straight forward. Although when I got into the zipper work, it has quickly become pretty frustrating. I have looked around the forum for some zipper guidance and did not find what I was looking for. Would appreciate any helping with learning how to work with zippers and leather. For context, I am hand stitching. The leather I working with is about 2/3oz. The biggest pain point are the ends as you can see. This is an example of the style I am trying to replicate. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/380554237235643499/?from_navigate=true
  17. Do you still the Boss for sale?

  18. That looks great, nice work! I am also going to give the tape a shot.
  19. Wasn't 100% sure where to post so thought I would start here. I am looking for someone in North Carolina who would consider walking through making a specific messenger bag with me. I have been doing leatherwork for a few years and have made a few bags but have hit a little bit of a wall and would love to work through a bag with someone to help improve my knowledge. An example of the bag I am looking to make can be found on instructables here, "http://www.instructables.com/id/Convertible-BriefcaseBackpack/" Ideal world, we could work through the bag on a Saturday (but will take a day off during the week if needed) and talk through the steps and pattern making for this specific bag. I am in the RDU area and willing to drive wherever around the state to meet up and will pay for your time/instruction. If anyone is up for the challenge or knows someone who would be let me know. Kind Regards, Brad
  20. I have been working on learning to make messenger bags and keep running into the same issue whenI am stitching/chiseling. No matter how many times I measure beforehand I am ending up with a different number of holes on the main body of the bag vs the gusset. Any tips on how to figure out what I am doing wrong would be much appreciated. Thanks, Brad
  21. Thanks for the help, this helped me out a bunch. I am going to do the harbor freight 20 ton, pick it up tomorrow. Will post some pictures when I am done.
  22. I am looking for an alternative to the tippman clicker press. I have a few die cuts and am looking for a more economical option to start with before I graduate later to a tippman. I have searched around for a thread on this but can't find one. If someone can point in the right direction, it would be appreciated. I am perfectly fine with a manual option. Just wanted help figuring out the setup. Thanks, Brad
  23. Veedub3, Thanks a bunch that is perfect to what I was looking for. I will give it a go this weekend and post a picture when I finish. I really appreciate the time you put into this. Kind Regards, Brad
