Newest Fire Suspenders

All the carving was done by hand and a smooth beveler was used. I did trace a pattern I created on a graphics program. -

Here's the most recent fire helmet front I've made. I did have a question. I hand stitched the two layers of leather together and like the decorative look, but I'm considering a sewing machine.. Can I replicate thus stitching with a 440 clone. Thanks

In the attached picture (random Internet search) how did the artist achieve this text? Any ideas. I have all of the standard alphabet stamp sets available from tandy and the spacing is such that I'm limited on width. Do you think this text is hand carved?

stamping the letters works but often the text is too long to fit with stamps as the spacing doesnt work out. i print the text on velum paper and transfer it to the leather ad carve. i use red dye for the letters and will paint the center numbers white..

What Has Been Your Best (And Worst) Tool/supply Investment?
Fd3615 replied to lightingale's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
best investments - dual action siphon feed airbrush ( amazon - 120 ) an arbor press from harbor freight that i use for rivets and hardware as well as stamping - 1 ton press and done... -
Ok so I was asked to make a civil war style holster for a friend ... I have never drawn my own holster pattern so I was immediately concerned... The holster itself turned out good I believe... I do need to get a sewing machine because this one was brutal... I made the ends exact... So in my mind I could punch the stitching holes around the perimeter before assembly... This was a bad idea... Outer row of stitching wasn't as rough... The rivets on the back are a little extreme but he wanted that. I used smooth double cap rivets and set them deep shouldn't be an issue inside the holster as this is more a shelf piece en a regular use holster. Next time ill line the interior.

Firefighter Suspender Back Plates
Fd3615 replied to lowlife's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Looks good to me. I've recently done a couple of skulls for some coworkers. Like you I don't have any artistic ability. Thank god for photoshop and Velum tracing paper.. In the fire service we seem to like that hand crafted look. All my suspenders customers have been very happy... One note on the skulls.. I'm tired of doing them.... Plus how morbid when were pumping and squishing and the family is looking at our suspender plates.. I'm switching to angels and bunnies... Lol... -
Simple Belt

Was the stain you used dry when you applied the tan kote? I've had some lightening but not ten shades. -
ALSO - i need the ability to sew light weight liners and padding material to some on my projects..

Let me start by saying I have never used a sewing machine. But there are many projects i sure would have loved one. I think its time i make the investment. I cant saddle stitch everything. I have read a ton of posts on here.. I have to say there is sooooooo much information that I cant keep it all straight. My needs - decorative stitching on 1 and 2 ply 10 oz veg tanned leather ( a nice thick thread ) sewing 3 to four layers of 5 - 8 oz leather for fire belts, toold holders, holsters, and sheaths. ease of use - like i said i have never sewed.. i need a good non marking feeder - and i assume a servo motor for slow control. HELP im to the point if someone tells me a brand and model and "sells" me on it.. im a buyer.. I know there are some sales people here.. so you have an eager customer.. thanks

Had a friend ask if I could make a set of turnout suspenders for his fire gear. I was actually thinking of making a set for myself but I settled and took my first attempt with his. Any thoughts or input would be appreciated .. Thanks .. Also threw in an a pic of a friction sheath I made him for his flashlight.,
