Here is a quick list of what I have to deal with, 2 flatbeds sewing machines, 1 singer foot paddle patcher, 1 landis 6 wheel finisher, 1 landis #12 boot stitcher, 1 Boogle and greenwell 15 ton hydraulic clicker, 1 370 Adler sewing machine, 2 stamping tables, 2 work benches, a 4 foot and a 8 foot, 1 cutting table, 4' x 8', 2 saddles stands 1 a draw down. All the tools and equipment needed for a saddle and boot shop. 50 years of patterns and books for, saddles, boots, bags, belts, chaps, purses, and holsters. A 5 in one and a 12 inch W. H. Horn leather splinter. Many more items I can't list from memory.

I have retired and closed my shop (Lewis Saddle Shop) I need some advice on the best way to sell everything. Should I sell the shop as a package or piece it out? In 8 months I will be retiring and closing my shop. Any thoughts about how to sell a saddle shop. How do you figure out a price to sell. Do you have to sell the Company name with the shop. My wife doesn't like the thought of someone using her father's name that isn't in the family. I also have a website (www.lewissaddleshop.com) for the last 20 years. I have heard of selling websites.

my shop is next door to Lewis saddle tree co. In between my leather work I cover their trees with fiberglass for them. The mini tree is the last one I have made by Wilford Lewis.

Here is my first half scale saddle

All new conchos. Same style with the diamonds only I had to re-design it for bigger diamonds since I couldn't fine the tiny ones that was used before. I replaced the back cantel binding and the padded seat. And some of the buckstitching. It was fun trying to match the new buckstitching color to the old yellow ones that use to be white.

Long tiny nails that went all the was thru the other side of the wood. After it dried I clipped them off.

In fact put in "brass eye hook" in any search engine and a whole lot of goodies comes up under jewelry clasps. You have to wade thru a lot of weeds to find what you want.

The hard part was getting the rawhide cover to stay in place while it dried. The conchos are just brass tacks pushed into place. Needless to say there wasn't much wood to anchor to. For my part I thought it was kind of a shabby job with what i had to work with, but he liked it. I'll try to get a picture of a 1/2 scale saddle that I made put up.

A customer brought this small tree in and asked me to make a saddle on it. I used smalls dees I had in the bin and I made the stirrups

Just a note. In saddle making A half breed saddle is one made half slick out and half rough out leather. A floral and basket tooling we call a combo. Good job.

This is a parade saddle that I restored for an old customer of Wilford Lewis. Half the conchos and hardware was missing.The company that made the original conchos and hardware went out of business over 30 years ago. Had to start from scratch and re-design it for modern hardware

Here are some leather art i did a while back. I tooled the leather and then painted them. Used an old camera and the colors are really not true.

My wife tooled purse sides by gluing them down with rubber cement on plexiglass . Of course you still can't hammer to hard.

Interesting. I have always used only 2 sides to make a saddle. This includes a 1 piece saddle seat and not 2 pieces. Wilford Lewis had drawn up a chart showing where each piece of the saddle had to be cut from in a side. Of course these are matched sides, a left and a right.

These old eyes of mine must be going. When you said "Elephant ears" I missed the word cantel. So I thought you were talking about the front for some reason. Of course I know about "Elephant ears cantels" They are a pain to re-cover. I even had customers to ask me to trim them to normal.

Good to know. Waterproofing leather has it's place. But I'm sort of old school and thinks of leather as being alive and needing to breath. I never seal the leather. I let the customer do that if they want, and then it is up to me to scrap all that crap off when it's time to clean them LOL
